Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

I think Guertler would be a good fit on that line.
Please excuse my ignorance, but I have a question on Guertler. When he was getting ready to return from the suspension, you guys seemed pretty excited about what he might bring to the team. It sounded like he would add a little scoring touch along with some grit. I can see he works hard out there, but he has yet to show up on the scoresheet. He has only played in six games so it's not really anything to panic over, just wondering if you guys had expected him to step in and be a bit more of a scorer right away.

He put the puck in the net pretty often as a young player in the USHL. He was 9th in the USHL in goals scored last year with 31. It's still fairly early in his season. I also expect Vinni Lettieri to put the puck in the net a bit more than he has. I have no doubt the talent is there with these guys, it may just take some more adjustment to playing at this level.

Thanks, I didn't know what his history was as far as scoring. Like I said, you guys seemed excited about Guertler cracking the lineup so I was kinda hoping to see him pop in a few goals right off the bat. But again, he is only six games in so hopefully he adjusts and starts scoring. And I agree, I think he will fit well on that line with Ambroz and Boyd in Serratore's absence.

Should be fun to watch these guys progress :)

Connor is the guy to put on that line. He's scoring at better rate than Serratore, which from a pts. standpoint puts him squarely on that line. Having said that, I'm all for giving frosh a solid chance to see if they're going to develop into a top two line player.

I'm just thinking from a grit standpoint is why Guertler is a good fit for that line. Connor should continue to fill in on that 2nd line with Letierri out now.

Agreed. Both will get playing time this weekend, it's just a matter of where to put them. Hopefully both seize the opportunities.

In place of whom? I'd like to think he sits Marshall one night but I know he won't. Holl and Bischoff each play one game...?

Brodzinski and Parenteau are the other possibilities.

Except the 2nd line has been Condon Kloos and Cammarata (he is back in the lineup) Connor should play on the 3rd line with Boyd and Ambroz, Guertler can stay on the 4th line for now.

I'm sure if Guertler was playing on the 1st 2 lines he would have more pts, but those lines have been clicking so it's best not to mess with them.

Right, my bad. I was thinking it was Cammy and Letierri, not Kloos. Never mind!

While there's geeking on individual names or lines, I'll just play along and say that it will be interesting to see what our freshmen "phenom" line combo can do this weekend. Probably not a big thing in the context of how the other 58 programs are producing but it is interesting that Ebbing / MacEachern and Haag combined for something like 20 points last weekend - so ha ha this isn't Princeton that MSU draws tomorrow but maybe that combo remains some form of hot.

The seniors are producing and the freshmen are too. It's a bit of a wasteland so far this season as far as the middle classes are concerned but maybe at long last MSU's leading scorer from last year (Berry) can log some serious ice time after being on the shelf with lower body injury.

If Hildebrand can have once of those Games Of A Lifetime in net, perhaps we can steal one at home while being grossly outshot-kind of deals.

Look forward to seeing the Gophers play MSU. Obviously it's hard to know much about MSU coming in, but since they're going to be a rival 4x a year and possibly more it's great to this going now. I think MSU is going to be a handle this weekend and UM needs to come mentally ready or they could face a UMD-like rattling if they don't.

I agree, the Gophers better be prepared to play from the opening faceoff. If they aren't, no excuses as the team will get a long (and well-deserved) 4 week break, starting Sunday. And what a great start it would be to begin the Big Ten era with a 4-0 record heading into the break. That alone should be reason enough for them to be fired up and show the Spartans who's boss in the league, at least when it comes to hockey! ;)

Not much of a rivalry when you win each game by 3 goals. :D

I have the notifications set on my TV so I remember to watch these laughers.

Anyone know if the trophy you two played for in the College Hockey Showcase will be up for grabs? Don't remember the name of that one but I know the one between us is the Renfrew-Mariucci Trophy. Do they still even exist?

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

There have been a few times when Minnesota is highly touted and Michigan State isn't, and the games end up really close. Especially at Munn.

Did you remember to watch this one? :p

Third-Period Letdown Results in OT Loss to U.S. NTDP

Yep on FSN.

And I also remember Michigan putting in their 4th string walkon in net with 2 minutes left, Luke Dwyer who's never had any game experience, which pretty much was throwing the game..

Really grasping at straws if you're going to look into an exhibition.

Especially where that happened & Michigan didn't even dress arguably their best two players in Copp & Bennett.

It wouldn't be an MSU thread if MGoBlue didn't come in and needlessly trash State.

Here's a Minnesota blog I stumbled upon that had a Q&A with an MSU blog. The guy from The Only Colors pretty much shares my thoughts on the team.
