Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 2-6 & 2-7

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 2-6 & 2-7

A necessary win for the Gophers tonight. Gophers looked good on D allowing very few scoring chances, Wilcox was in good form, the offensive and PP controlled play, and took care of the puck. Overall they looked like the team that once upon a time had high expectations.

Even though OSU is low in the PWR, with the number of upsets around college hockey today, this may be one of the most important wins for the Gophers in quite some time. I expected Quinnipiac to beat Colgate, but huge upsets to Harvard, Yale, Mass-Lowell, and Vermont have catapulted the Gophers back into the tournament field from 19th to tied for 13th. This sets up a critical match up next week against Michigan with major B1G and PWR implications.

EDIT:

Congrats to Travis Boyd on his first hatty. He's playing with a ton of confidence right now.

At this stage this season and the way comparisons are for the Gophers, potentially things can change drastically now in the PWR from week to week. Mich. is still playing tonight (3-0 lead), and with the Beanpot beginning Monday, adjustments are forthcoming.

THE Ohio State University doesn't know how to generate shots on goal.

A win over Ohio State by THE U of M isn't the most impressive and proof they are back, but they looked better than they have for awhile, playing with some intensity for a good chunk of 120 minutes.

Well, the boys did what they had to. Now let's see if next week they can do what they want to.
