Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

I'm not particularly pleased with either team's jersey design.

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

I was definitely expecting them to go with a 100-foot-wide surface. Mariucci Arena is already that size, and it would help make the sightlines less bad for those in the lower deck.

Too much gold on that Minnesota jersey. I get the deal with emphasizing the second color, but it seems like teams forget about their first color in the process.

The Ohio State jerseys are just boring.

The scene looks great, though. Reminds me of outdoor neighborhood games when I was growing up.

1-0 Gophers after two.

I dont really like the Buckeyes Jersey either. Pretty good hockey game through 2 periods.

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

Your goalie threw it in the net with a lot of authority. Please give him credit.
If he isn't truly remorseful I expect the entire team to beat him in the locker room with bars of soap in their socks. Still, he didn't do all that bad for a freshman.

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

You really aren't going to brag on that weak goal are you?
Two more feet and it may have nudged the back of the net!

Plus, MN so rarely gets a win over tOSU on a football field you're dam right we're going to brag & celebrate! :D

Very good hockey game tonight. Tough for the Buckeyes to lose on that type of goal but thats the breaks. The Gophers didnt give the Buckeyes much room tonight but when they did Wilcox did his job. Tomorrow is another day and a chance to beat the #1 team in the Country.

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

Gophers did a better job tonight of puck possession and control than we did. Certainly lessened our scoring opportunities.
So unlike Dzingle to be so alone on the breakaway and not score. He looked like he came in too close unable to decide what move he wanted to make. He's best at going top shelf corner.

He played really well. Sometimes you get an ugly goal to win. I NEVER complain about that.

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

45,021+ MN fans endured the deep freeze at the Bank with game temp at 7 for the largest attended outdoor hockey game in Minnesota history to watch the Gophers ice a 1-0 victory. Ice and wind conditions were good throughout the game and were not a factor at all tonight. The Gophers competed with decent passing, and shutdown D limiting Ohio State to only a few scoring chances all game. Gophers are now 13-1 all time against OSU.

Both Adam Wilcox and Thomkins had good performances and made key saves with the Gophers scoring the lone goal. The goal was actually knocked in by Thomkins glove during a swarm, Cammarata getting credit for the goal. The Gophers now have an NCAA leading 9 game unbeaten streak. A nice milestone for Adam Wilcox tonight, who recorded his 5th shutout as a Gopher and is now tied for 7th all time with Rob Stauber. OSU is a very good team, high scoring and puts a lot of shots on net. Tomorrow night the Gophers will need a good defensive effort for the sweep. Go Gophers! Rah!:)

Re: Minnesota hosts Ohio State: 1/17 & 1/18

45K....sounds small compared to other outdoor games. But if you think about it....it's 2.5x (about) of the second largest attended game....which was a high school playoff game at the X a couple years ago. Yeah. :)

Edit: point is...never had/have an opportunity to get the 6 digit mark, like MI, etc.

Agreed on all counts.

Thought the Gophers, as a team, really controlled the defensive slot. The fact that's not usually their top strength makes it all the more impressive. And Wilcox was simply perfect on everything that did get through -- mostly shots from the outside. Tomkins was very good, and had one especially notable kick save. But the truth is that he lost a couple of pucks in his pads. He got the break he needed once, and was less fortunate on the other. Haven't seen a score sheet, but I've got to believe that Wilcox was an easy choice for the #1 Star. And yet you could defend putting Tomkins on the list as well.

FYI to those who attended: Visually the BTN coverage was very good. Looked like a great scene with a fine time had by all.
