Minnesota hosts North Dakota: Let the hate flow - 11/4-11/5

Re: Minnesota hosts North Dakota: Let the hate flow - 11/4-11/5

Actually this year they started the season with 5 consecutive wins. Not exactly typical...

Slump in Nov/Dec, revive themselves after the break. To me, that's a typical UND season.

Re: Minnesota hosts North Dakota: Let the hate flow - 11/4-11/5

I'd like to think the number of empty seats would send a message to the school that they're out-pricing too many fans - this series should have gone over the fire code allowance - but since they obviously are still earning a nicely net sum that's not going to happen any time soon.

Brent - they have a different coach behind the bench and I don't believe UND had any such early season slump last season. Which is not to say they won't turn it around. I think they will once all the young kids get more experience, but past results don't always predict the future.

Re: Minnesota hosts North Dakota: Let the hate flow - 11/4-11/5

A lot of the empty seats were in the high donation sections. Those tickets are sold. As I've said here or elsewhere, it's either people with way too much money to care, really old people sitting on tickets and going once in a blue moon, or corporate. Hunting may have played a small role.

Despite all the attention the CBS line got, last year's team had arguably the best D corps the program has ever had, and it lost three of them. It's a difficult position to learn, and it will be a while before they know if they have what it takes. Hopefully, they won't dig a hole they get out of in time for the tourney.

It's good to play the gophs again--that much I know. For us older fans, it evokes memories. For the younger ones, it's just good hockey. And Happy gets to pull out his one joke about his one tree. All is good.

What part of "kick em while they're down" don't you understand?

I get it. But I'm not a big enough a-hole to kick while they down. I will just take satisfaction of a win and a tie, and smile very widely. I'm not greedy. ;)

I was going to go with my .6 second joke, but I went with old faithful.

It had been years since I was last at Mariucci, but I attended both games this past weekend. Candidly, I was surprised at the number of empty seats. But I don't think it's price.

When I looked around it was just big chunks of 4-5 seats in every section, including the prime middle sections. This wasn't a Twins game at HHH with the upper deck empty and no one sitting in the seats beyond first or third base. The Mariucci seats that were empty had to have been sold to someone. No way center ice seats 15 rows up are going unsold.

That tells me a sizable number of fans just decided they had something better to do Friday and Saturday night, which is too bad. They missed some great college hockey games.

Those middle sections are the "high donation" areas that Bonin21 referenced:

This was several years ago, but one of my wife's employers had a a small business and he owned a pair of tickets in prime areas. They often sat in his desk drawer unless a client got into a discussion about hockey and he remembered to offer them to the client. I've known other corporate tickets that got distributed to staff who would them decide not to make the drive. It's not right, but it's the way it is.

If corpies don't use their tickets the U should revoke the right to use them. pr1cks

Great series, was fun to play NoDak again.

It would be impossible to do but I've often thought the U should do something to promote use of those empty seats. Like if the tickets have not been scanned in at the arena by the end of the first period, they re-release them for a discounted price at the ticket office or something like that. Not realistic, I know...

I thought they've been doing that ever since the ticket scanners were introduced, if not for all seats then at least for a few.

Not that I've ever heard of. They did briefly have a "rush seating" option. You could buy a ticket at greatly reduced price some time after puck drop. You could then stand or take an open seat, but had to move if the seat holder showed up. I don't see any info about that on the site now. Maybe the corpies who did show up objected to having to ask people to move. Or maybe since few games are complete sell outs they dropped it.

I"m glad you went with one tree. That or overage canadians. Gives us some stability in a changing world.

Great idea. That way they can get butts in the seats.

Also, if a corpie ticket doesn't get scanned for a month they lose the right to go anymore on that ticket. :) Get them to sell em to customers that actually want to show up.

It's fun to dream....

Now THAT is a stellar idea. Interstellar overdrive idea, if I may.:o:o

Also not realistic. Many on here and GPL lament the cost of attending the games (season tix with donation haven't gone up in a material way in years) yet ***** about the people that do pay and don't show. Honestly, once they buy the ticket, they can do whatever they want to with them. If you don't like it, but a season ticket and show up.
