More like someone finally convinced the Headmaster to listen to reason. The Vanellis have been lobbying for it for years but the Headmaster insisted on staying wherever the MSHSL put them.

SECTION 3AA would make the most sense to me:

Apple Valley, Cretin-Derham Hall, Eagan, East Ridge, Eastview, Hastings, Park of Cottage Grove, Rosemount, Woodbury.

Side note, my boss told me it was somehow the football coach holding back STA moving up in hockey...

This would surprise me as one of the asst. football coaches I know pretty well said they wanted to move up, from 4A to 5A. before th new super class was created.

They were out of sight, out of mind in the single A tourney. Now the AA field could easily have at some point. Hill 4AA, ST 3AA, Benilde 6AA, and Holy Angels/Edina from 2AA.

The logistics would be a nightmare, but should Minnesota move to public (A, AA, etc.) and private state tournaments? I don't follow the other sports, but do the private schools dominate the other sports?
