OK, I'm putting you down for No. 4! Boo! Mind over heart, I guess.
We'll check back after the brackets are announced and see who's right...hopefully the list will not include Stauber1!![]()
No, just ignored it! The rules call for placing your $100 bet on one of the four options - no caveats!Double boo!
Did you forget the 2nd sentence in that post?!?![]()
OK Gopher fans, you've got a $100 and need to make a bet on one of the following. Where would you place your money?
1. Gophers do enough and get some help from other teams, resulting in an at-large NCAA bid.
2. #1 doesn't happen, but Gophers win the B1G tourney and get in that way.
3. Gophers accomplish both #1 and #2 and as a result get a higher-than-expected seed.
4. Gophers fail to make the NCAA's.
No caveats, just place your bet!

I know what Jake Taylor would say.

I see that with the sweep over OSU the Gophers did climb several spots to a tie for #13 (with Quinnipiac) in the PWR. Michigan sits right above and all alone at #12. IF - and it's a big IF - the Gophers were to somehow sweep them this weekend, what's a realistic expectation of where they would be, assuming the other teams just above them perform about as you'd expect?
#13T Quinnipiac has home games against #17 St. Lawrence and #33 Clarkson
#11 BC plays #16 Harvard in the Beanpot tomorrow and then hosts #19 Vermont in a pair this weekend
#10 Providence travels to #34 Notre Dame for two
#9 Denver is at #2 UND
#8 Bowling Green is at #41 Ferris State
...etc. Gophers probably have no hope of climbing any higher no matter what happens...
The main thing is for the Gophers to take care of their own business, but it would certainly help their cause if in addition to that:
Quinnipiac loses to Clarkson
Notre Dame sweeps Providence
UND sweeps Denver
Ferris State sweeps Bowling Green
We can always hope...

A few thoughts on some significant college hockey matchups for the Gophers on Friday (not calculating ties). Saturday's game may have a whole new set of probabilities. Despite sweeping OSU, without last week's surprising upsets in college hockey the Gophers would not have been able to crawl out of their PWR hole to 14th. Obviously we want a Gopher W and every neighbor on both sides of their PWR to lose. PWR #16 is most likely an autobid for Robert Morris, and #15 possibly an autobid for Quinnipiac (or St. Lawrence), if needed. Also the PWR is a comparison matrix using multiple criteria, not a linear association based solely upon estimating how many remaining games the Gophers might win. The good news is many of the Gopher's PWR neighbors have only 5-7 remaining games in their schedules compared to 10 for the Gophers.
* = best scenario
1) HARVARD: Even with the rivalry factor, it's probably to Harvard's advantage that the Beanpot was postponed as the wheels have come off for the Crimson in the 2nd half (2-7-0), but BC seems to be back again playing well (8-2-1) at the right time.
Significance for Gophers: Colgate @ Harvard has RPI significance.
Harvard W/Gopher L = Harvard jumps the Gophers in the PWR
Harvard W or L*/Gopher W* = Gophers climb in the PWR to #12 if Qp loses, Qp win and Gophers land at 13th.
Harvard L/Gopher L = Depends on other matchup results (St. Lawrence, Yale, Mass-Lowell, Vermont).
2) ST. LAWRENCE: Currently one of the hottest trending bubble teams @ 8-2-1/2nd half.
Significance for Gophers: St. Lawrence @ Quinnipiac (6-3-1) has RPI/COp (comparison) significance. Qp has a COp and RPI adv. over Gophers.
Qp W/Gopher L = Gophers fall in the PWR to 15th or 16th
Qp W/Gopher W = Gophers most likely land @ 13th
Qp L*/Gopher W* = Gophers have +.02 QWB points for W vs MI, so could jump Qp in the PWR to #12
SL W/Gopher L = SL has +.0225 QWB points for W vs Qp. Depends on other matchups (Harvard and Mass-Lowell), but SL could enter 16 team field @ t13th and Gophers will drop to 15th-17th.
3) MASS-LOWELL: Since winning the Mariucci Classic, they are basically throwing their season out the window in 2nd half (2-7-0).
Significance for Gophers: Mass-Lowell @ Mass. (4-5-1) has RPI/COp (comparison) significance. Mass-Lowell has COp over Gophers.
M-L W/Gopher L = Gophers fall in the PWR anywhere from 15th - 17th (depends on St. Lawrence, Quinnipiac, Yale, Harvard, Vermont)
M-L L*/Gopher W* = Gophers climb in PWR but how far depends Qp/SL result. If Qp loses, Gophers could jump to #12.
M-L W/Gopher W = RPI spike for both teams at this point with weak correlation.
In reality, I'd probably put the 100 bucks towards paying off my school loan. But considering the Gophers got the huge PWR bump they needed last weekend, have 3-5 games to give over their current PWR neighbors and showed a consistent team effort in their sweep of OSU, I'll say they sneak in, so #1. But they've got to come out of the gate this weekend with guns blazing. Go Gophers!![]()
Geez, turn off the CRAY and go back to bed.
That said, well done and, Thanks!
MINNESOTA WILL WIN THE 2014-15 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! MARK MY WORDS!
(ok, I doubt it, but I had to do SOMETHING for my 100,000th post)

I'd bring another $100 and go to Manny's with my wife.![]()
So I haven't been to a game at Mecca for years. My wife asked about b-day present ideas, and I really don't want anything. But then thought that with a kid at the U now, maybe I should tell her we'd take the family to a game instead. Is it possible to get 5 tickets to say the Penn State series? And how much will it set me back?

I had to search pretty hard to find four seats together for remaining home games around Christmas time. I got four together for the Feb 26th game against Michigan St as a Christmas present for my parents. I felt lucky to get those when I did.So I haven't been to a game at Mecca for years.
