"they got everyone back.... they will be unbeatable this year!!"

Gophers Hockey........ELL-OH-ELL

But hey, at least we're not the Badgers. I just hope they don't get swept by them too.

Swept.
Then scooped into the garbage.
Then the garbage was taken out to the dumpster.
Then the dumpster was set on fire.
Then Scooby threw his ¼ glass of water on the fire and laughed because it was a huge dumpster fire and even this glass, if full, would not have changed the fire.
Then I encouraged him to throw in the glass, too. And he did.

I had a comment in the GPL chat, which I cannot repeat here. The ACLU might come after me. There is no way they'd defend me. That angry.

Gophers 1, Michigan 4; end of 1st period. Gophers are looking more and more like a .500 team.

I'm not seeing .500 as within their reach the way they have payed the last few weeks. Apparently the team must hate the living heII out of Lucia & want him to be unemployed.

While I may not be in the camp saying the sky is falling, it's certainly hanging a little lower than it was.

I wish someone could put a finger on what is going on with this team. Obviously they have talent. They seem to be lacking leadership, desire, and drive to really put things together. Go back to early in the year and they were cycling the puck like crazy, putting good shots on net, protecting the puck, and defending their goal. There hasn't been a single game in the last 10 that they even did one of those things well.

Consistency has been a really big issue as well, since it seems like Boyd is the only player that has been good every game. M. Reilly had his worst game as a Gopher today and he looked like he had a piano on his back. It just seems like this team's peak was about 4 weeks in to the season and it has dropped dramatically from there.

I would like to think they can get a little healthy against the BADgers next weekend, but there will need to be some pretty drastic changes for that to happen.

Not to worry, Gopher hockey fans, between the blue lines we are still the best team in the history of college hockey. Once we get those other two zones figured out, we should be OK.

Like where Reilly cost us a goal today? About the only play between the blue lines I can remember, though I did stop paying attention in the third...

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

STAUNCH Two-cox defender but today...I wanted to pull him after the 3rd goal. That bad. My God he was so off.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

P.S. Who would have predicted the Gophers would take home the Little Brown Jug in football but get swept in our two hockey games in Ann Arbor (for the first time since the early 90's I believe?).

Possibly his worst play of the year. Like every Peewee hockey coach would say, "Move your feet!".

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

While I may not be in the camp saying the sky is falling, it's certainly hanging a little lower than it was.

Gopher fan's high hopes for change and a fresh start to the 2nd half have been crushed in just the first 4 games. The very bad news is the Gophers have picked up where they left off in the first half. Fortunately, Denver lost so we didn't fall completely off the edge of the PWR bubble yet. But there's little doubt no one imagined at the start of the second half we'd be one loss away from being a TUC in the NCAA playoffs. As of today, including the U18 game and the shootout W by Sparty (and why not include them?), the Gophers are 2-8-1 in their last 11 games. If the sky's not falling with a record like that, it's definitely dropping in large pieces.

There's been tons of chatter over the past several weeks on what's wrong with this team. But when I read this today: “You’re never as good as you think you are,” Lucia said, “and you’re never as bad as you think you are", I realized the struggles on this team are more than just the team play itself.

I'm not about to throw Lucia completely under the bus here, but with a comment like that, he's halfway under it as far as I'm concerned. With a record like 2-8-1, where is the sense of urgency, fight and indignation in a comment like that? Especially since they've quickly deteriorated from national contender status to being a team that's struggling to make the field for the NCAA playoffs. At this point even winning the B1G conference title is in jeopardy. The last thing this team and Gopher fans need are watered down, pithy media comments from the coach.

Leadership, desire and drive starts with Lucia and I'm not impressed his attitude after this weekend's debacle.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

The one winter team in this town I thought would give us some satisfaction is really leaving a lot to be desired. If these guys don't have a serious come to Jesus moment pronto (I can't believe I'd even be able suggest it) the post-season seems out of reach.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Relax guys, my team is currently playing well above their heads (goaltending not withstanding). You'll be fine.

I don't know, Slap. You like to have those come to Jesus moments in the first half of the year, but there is still time, and it really doesn't matter when it happens as long as the pw numbers still work for you come tourney time. So don't go out into the jungle begging to be eaten by whatever it is out there that eats people.

After further review, I doubt anything will eat a gopher fan, so you'd just get a rash or rot of some kind, which you deserve.

So who is having the more disappointing season so far?:

Gophers - Should be in top three all year based on talent and should be a lock for a number one seed. Currently would barely be a 3rd seed.

Wild - With additions and tons of improving young talent, looked primed to easily make playoffs and then potentially make a good run. At beginning of year, was outplaying everyone, even in losses, with solid efforts for most of every game. Now, moving further away from even making playoffs with inconsistent effort and play.

Hope they both turn things around soon.

Merry xmas and happy new year to the handful that still post here!

Re-posting from Dec. 28. At that time, only response I got was Slap Shot saying it was a no-brainer because one team was dead in the water. Don't know if it is a no-brainier now (even though Wild are still free-falling).

It just seems like almost no one on the team has made a step up from last year (Maybe Shjei and Bischoff only ones). Some seem to have even slumped (few Sophomores come to mind). And at least one new player seems to have fallen short of his pre-season hype by quite a bit (maybe there is a reason he wasn't drafted besides just size). But on top of this, the team seems to collectively make more poor defensive decisions, and I am not talking about just the freshman D, but include many other players as well at each position.

At this point, the B1G title is Michigan's to lose. Making the tourney is in question, when the only question should be if they will be a number 1 seed. And I see a lot of work that needs to be done before I feel like this team has a shot even f they make the tourney. Hard to fathom given the guys who returned just to pursue an NC. And while there is plenty of potential talent coming in the future, I think things would really have to fall into place and have some players exceed expectations for MN to be a primary contender the next couple seasons giving what they will be losing this year. The time is now, and the team doesn't seem to want to seize it.

(Has anyone Identified a suicide line if the Gophs lose a game to Bucky? If so, please have handy to post in large font, so I can still read it when about to pass out from over-drinking.)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Geez.

There's a problem when I'm the voice of reason.

Good News:

Michigan is a legitimate contender for the BIG19 and everyone knew that going into the season and this weekend.

Bad News:

They needed one victory this weekend.

Good News:

Friday night performance has improved.

Bad News:

Saturday performance is bad.

Good News:

The rolling aspirin wagon that is Wisconsin Hockey comes to town.

Bad News:

Anything short of a two night curb stomping of the Badgers is unacceptable.
