Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Skjei may be the one guy MN absolutely needs to be successful. They are a much different - and better - team when he's on the ice.

Good to see Vinnie bury a couple, for as hard as he works it had to be just a matter of time before he started to score but I never thought they'd be snipes. Nice.

His first ever UM goal was a complete snipe and wasn't unusual in HS. He may not ever become a 1st or 2nd liner, but his start to the season imho was a complete aberration given his talent and work ethic.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

Well that sucked. Hard to judge play since video was jerky. But shouldn't be outshot by NU though......

Yes but when you only score two goals you will not win the majority of the time.

Scoring goals starts with getting it out of your zone. We're giving up far too many shots and seeing far too much defensive zone time.

We were just outshot by a team that hasn't outshot many teams this season. We gave up our blue line far too easy and we were (as is becoming customary this season) sloppy in our outlets.

Need more intensity. With speed and skill they have, they should be able to play a puck possession game against just about any team int he country. Best defense is to not let the opponent have the puck. Need to realize this before end of year.

Really no excuses for losing to a mediocre NU team. I had a sense that the team's main mission on this trip MIGHT have been to win that first game vs. BC. Mission accomplished, and that MAY have affected the team's effort tonight. No way to tell for sure, but that's what I was thinking heading into tonight's game. And then, right off the bat, losing Mike Reilly for the entire game certainly hurt. Killing that 5 minute penalty was a big lift, but as you would expect the Huskies established a lot of zone time and built a major edge on the shot clock. Later, Wilcox gave up a goal that normally he would save easily. And lots of good looks that would have gone in against BC the night before were not going in this evening. Still, no excuses for losing this game, they just didn't get it done. Nice job by the Huskies and their coaching staff who found a way to win.

mediocre? check out their record! NU can only dream of being mediocre ;)

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

This Gopher team has a lot of room to improve defensively.

Their D effort was horrible last night. They lost puck battles just about everywhere on the ice, allowed 2-3 Huskies to stand in front of Wilcox untouched, and showed very little physicality, whereas Northeastern was continuously aggressive at both ends for the entire game. This team needs an attitude check or they will sputter like this throughout the season.

The two are not unrelated. You won't generate much up ice if you don't get out of your own zone. And that's not just on the D, obviously.

UND has some very good defensemen, but their offense seems to go away for extended periods of time, when they are struggling to maintain possession in their own zone and transition out. Looks like a lack of hustle when it happens, but I'm not sure it's that simple. Hesitation or confusion on assignments is probably part of it.

Not in this case...their effort as a team last night was lazy and out of sync. They know the systems by now...they're not that hard to learn.

Agree. Most of team is back from last year. They know what to do, just aren't playing with necessary intensity consistently. Still seem to coast like they will win on talent alone at times.

Also, on game listing for next game, says 6:00 on FSN+ tape delay. Does anyone know anything about the delay and what time that means the game will be on?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

I suspect they aren't going to list a start time, it will just be on as soon as they are done with the Wild game. So probably around 11.

NU has won 3 of their last 4. Kevin Roy is a great goal scorer, lead the USHL in scoring his last year. This trip out east is behind us.

1. What time is Wild game, 8:00?
2. How is it Effin' possible that it makes sense to put the worthless Wolves on FSN over either the Wild or the Gophers? What is wrong with our STATE of Hockey??? It is BASKETBALL, and they are Horrible!!! Who watches that crap?
3. Why does this have to happen the one Friday before I have to get up early and go to work?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Season Thread: 2014-2015

1. 7:00
2. From everything I've heard, more people than watch college hockey.

2. That defies logic. There are SOOOOO many Stupid people in this world!
3. My provider somehow chooses not to participate in BTN2Go despite subscribing to BTN! (See number 2 above.)

Lost 3 of the last 4 and lost to the U18 team in exhibition. I just hope they manage to score a goal this weekend.
