Minnesota Gophers Offesason Thread: Back To 1896

Re: Minnesota Gophers Offesason Thread: Back To 1896

Louie had to do what was best for him. None of us know what it is like being a hockey playing Nanne in this state. I am sure he will choose a school out of state but my guess any of the other MN schools would take him in a second. He is a quality hockey and it is not jsut because he is a Nanne.

Doubt he stays in-state. It was not just Gopher fans who were crying nepotism when the Wild drafted him.

Louie was mainly looking eastern schools back when he decided on the Gophers. My bet is he ends up at an Ivy school.

...This isn't the first time nepotism rumors have been implied (i.e. Tony Lucia). Tony fought through it and performed reasonably well. In similar fashion, I suppose Louie could have used the criticism as added incentive to develop and excel, but he obviously lacks the confidence and self-identity at this point to handle it all. Hope things work out for him.

I may be interpreting that wrong, but I don't think his decision implies any character issues on his part. He's a kid who just spent the first year of his life away from home, and seemed to really enjoy it. I don't think it necessarily speaks to a lack of personal attributes that what he learned this past year about himself and his wants has changed what he thinks would be best for him.

He's not leaving the Gophers high and dry, and he seems to be handling everything with composure and maturity. I wish him well.

I agree Stauber, to make the decision he did to decommit knowing it might elicit more fan criticism shows some maturity and inner strength obviously supported by his strong faith in God. My comment was based upon his quest to "prove" to others and himself that he's "capable and worthy" to play D1, and his desire to develop his own sense of self-identity elsewhere out of the shadow of his family's hockey heritage in MN. He's got a bright future ahead of him.

Interesting, I will have to ask my mom's neighbors and friends.

Anyone see where the Osorojo thread "How do they do it?" went?

It went to that place where threads go to lick their wounds.

Gophers added an EXHIBITION GAME to the schedule today on Oct. 5th with our annual "roll over and let us kick the crap out of you for fun" friends, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The Icebreaker Tourney info from Gophersports

Additionally, Minnesota and College Hockey, Inc., have finalized matchups for the Oct. 11-12 Ice Breaker Tournament at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers will officially open the 2013-14 season on Oct. 11 against Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. while New Hampshire and Clarkson will face off earlier in the day at 4 p.m. The Ice Breaker Tournament features a championship format with the losers of both Friday games playing at 4 p.m. on Saturday followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.

I'm looking forward to some Gopher Hockey!

It's going to be a fun year for Gopher Hockey. First year in the Big Ten Hockey Conference, one of the best recruiting classes in recent memory, open with the Ice Breaker Tourney, outdoor game at TCF Bank Stadium, play in the inagural North Star College Hockey Tourney, and of course Hockey Day Minnesota.

Lots of great Gopher Hockey events to look forward to!
