Minnesota Gophers Offesason Thread: Back To 1896

Re: Minnesota Gophers Offesason Thread: Back To 1896

Or just kick back, crack a brew and watch this all night... either way it's great Hockey.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Offesason Thread: Back To 1896

Is that your predicted order? If so there is no way OSU finishes below PSU.

No, but my B1G preseason prediction would be:

1. Gophers
2. UW
3. Michigan
4. Ohio State
5. Michigan State
6. Penn St.

B1G's inaugural season will be comprised of good teams with lots of scoring potential.

1) The Gophers have huge scoring potential, a strong D, excellent goaltending;
2) The BADgers have most of their top scorers returning (approximately 80% scoring) and good frosh recruits (i.e. Besse/2013 MN Mr. Hockey);
3) Michigan has 8/10 top scorers returning;
4) Michigan State had a rebuilding year in 2012-13 with one of the largest freshman classes in D1 and has 86% of their scoring returning;
5) Penn St. returns most of their players while adding some size and strength to the blueline. They'll most likely be a .500 team, but I think they'll surprise some very good teams next season (19 of their games are against teams that have reached the Frozen Four since 2009);
6) Ohio St. has a new head coach (former asst. Steve Rohlik) and all of their top 10 scorers returning, including 2012-13 CCHA scoring leader Tanner Fritz, as well as two other top 10 scorers from the CCHA last season.
Cue up "Invasion of the Pod Snatchers" voice.
"The B1G will have exciting hockey. There will be lots of scoring. Wisconsin will transform from one of the worst teams to watch into an entertaining, fast, and skill oriented team. Michigan will finally live up to expectations. Michigan State has a coach ready to lead them into a new era. Penn State fared well last year and is an up and coming team. Ohio State... [excuse computer explodes]
