Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

But if you click here you'll also get the streaming info on games that are not televised. And you can link to the calendar directly and have it up to date.
Cool. I recall reading in the Strib the other day that the TV schedule is not finalized and it's likely that more games will be added.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

True...UVM didn't lose much from last season except Hoffman their goalie, so there's a concern in net.

Hey guys, wish I could make the trip to Minny but alas not in the cards at this point. Any internet streaming?

Regardless just a quick a note, for us Catamount fans there isn't much concern in net. That's really a media "concern" because otherwise they'd actually have to do some thinking. While Hoffman is a big loss, Santaguida is more then capable going 0.923sv% (better then Hoffman) with a 2.08GAA in 25 games last season.

Can't wait to see how things match up and if the Gophers want to come out kinda rough that first game, well that's OK by me.

Cheers

And, on occasion, Irish Car Bomb cupcakes. But only if you're really cool.

I have thus far been able to avoid the pull (at least for posting - Regular lurker during my lunchbreak).

Lurking counts in my book. I lurked here for quite a while before posting. Same with GPL.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

What the hell is American Sports Network?
It's a sort of syndicated network (not sure if that is the correct term for it).
Basically, they produce content and it then gets picked up by various regional carriers. Last year their broadcasts were aired on Ch. 23 (I think).

I'm eager to see myself, although I would be very surprised if MN came out trying to play a rough'n'tumble kind of game.
EDIT: Duh. I just realized you meant rough as in rusty, not rough as in dirty like UND.

...Brodzinski obviously can't fill Reilly's skates, so I don't think MG will put high expectations on him at QB. I think we'll see Bischoff, a more stable D as more of a QB this season and run O systems with a view to a more balanced scoring attack than last season.
I'm with you and MNstateofhockey. At this point I just don't trust Brodz to be the guy on the PP. Maybe that will change as the season goes on, and I'm sure he'll be given some opportunities to prove his consistency, but I agree with your guess that we will see someone a bit more stable out there.

With my November move it Portland it looks like I'll be purchasing a BTN2Go subscription. I was already planning on getting the WCHA subscription as well, and I think the Notre Dame streams are free (?). At least that's what I think I remember from before. So the only games I'll have to go to the bar for are the ESPNews ones.

But what the hell is BTNPlus? Can anyone confirm if that is available via the BTN2Go subscription?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

Also, probably the toughest non conference schedule in the country.

A veteran UMD, always tough SCSU, MSU (picked top of WCHA), another game against SCSU/MSU, at Notre Dame, Bemidji (picked in top half of WCHA), Vermont as discussed, perhaps Ferris St, and a Northeastern (picked in top half of HEA). Any of the teams could be top 10 when we play them...and many if not all have the dates they play Minnesota circled. A single game against UConn is the only NC opponent with a potential for a middle PWR or lower.

Have you taken a look at Bemidji's OOC schedule?
I'd also say that it's pretty unlikely that Notre Dame, Bemidji, Vermont, Ferris, Northeastern (or even St.Cloud) are going to be top-10 teams....maybe 1 or 2 will surprise, but those all look like 15-40 PWR teams to me.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season Thread 2015

Really? "My B1G picks" :D Some might place Sparty at 2nd considering Hildebrand (SR) will most likely be the top goalie in the B1G and they have the smallest FR class which means they return most of their scoring prowess....

I haven't bothered to look but per the MSU thread the fans there say they lost most of their scoring.

Bemidji's schedule looks tough because its similar to ours...they add both UND and a home series against AZ state, yet drop St Cloud.

I wouldn't count on a full scale collapse from last years top ten SCSU team and beyond that, we've got a third of our NC games against teams that have an excellent chance to be the best team in the country. Still haven't seen another NC schedule that is markedly tougher.

The only significant player they lost in terms of scoring was Matt Berry (12-17-29). They retained most of their "scoring prowess". ;)

Good thing you put scoring prowess in quotes. At least that is genuine.

I can see where you guys are coming from given some mistakes in the past but let's be honest... he's an upperclassman, he has a big shot from the point (might be the best among the D) and he has shown success in that kind of PP role in the past. I'll be somewhat surprised if he isn't given ample opportunity early on.

If they were willing to give Ben Marshall a lot of PP time despite his mistakes (and I really like the kid... and his dad is a total class act), I see no reason why they wouldn't with Brodzinski.

I wouldn't wanna be the guy trying to block Brodz's shot when he releases that cannon. Haven't seen the FR, but arguably the best slap shot among returning players. I'm not saying he won't have his touches on the PP, but the original discussion addressed the PP QB. Bischoff was paired with Reilly for most of last season and I think we'll see him as the alternate captain taking on that QB role.

I cited their only significant loss and my original post that you questioned in error was too. ;)

I misremembered what the MSU fans were stating. It wasn't as I thought that they lost a bunch, but rather there isn't much there period. It that essence scoring prowess is a misnomer. :)
