Minnesota Gophers 2021-2022

Then their goaltender gives it away.
Blair's mistake was more glaring, but it was similar to the error that Bench made to turn the puck over for the Badgers first goal. Bench tried to do too much and passed it beyond the reach of her teammates along the wall, leaving them out of position and covering nobody. With a two-goal lead, just take the simple play and hand the puck off to your D. Even if it gets turned over in the corner, it's harder for UW to turn that into a quick scoring chance. And the other UW goal was all of the UM forwards getting caught in deep, and by the time Boreen appeared on the back check, she wasn't able to pick anyone up. UW found the open player, and she scored with a nice shot that beat Bench.

These games tend to be all about making/avoiding mistakes and being able to capitalize on the chances that result. The Gophers were just a little better in that respect yesterday.

In recent years when UM does find a way to get a win in this series, they come out for game two like they've wrapped up first place and have nothing to prove. They need to bring the same effort and at least make Bucky earn it.

amen!

I appreciate coach Frost's comment about finding a new identity. I agree they need that and it doesn't necessarily happen overnight. I don't think they have accomplished it yet, but I don't think they have failed yet either. Yesterday was certainly not a step backward!!

They need to play a little harder? Wow, that is an interesting comment for sure. One of the fun factors sitting behind the opposing bench is watching the coaches do their thing. Frosty was coaching hard on the bench, I don't think I've ever seen him as animated as he was in the 3rd period on Friday. He could taste the win. He wanted it badly. Usually he's very cerebral and quiet, writing an occasional note in his small notebook he has. Maybe he is changing his identity a bit. I wish I could have been at the Saturday game to see how he was working the bench in that game.

Watch the Yuckeyes behind the direction of the Muzzinator. Lately, they have out worked and out hustled Minnesota. Plus how Minnesota was owned by the Sinners the last few years. That comment about "working a little harder and playing with a little more grit" makes sense to me.

Bringing this back from the tOSU thread ...
... the game will be televised on BTN (3:30 puck drop).
Speaking of broadcasting of games, what was up with the production staff in Madison this weekend? For one of the games, they gave us the overhead shot of the Wisconsin net for the first 2 minutes and 15 seconds of the second period. Then there is the usual issue of them wanting to show their "Make Noise!!!" graphic for the fans on the scoreboard, but leaving it going once play resumes. If you're going to charge people to view your product, then you should either have a separate feed for inside versus outside the arena, or err on the side of always showing game action. You'd need a lot of duct tape to keep Tim and his cronies from making noise; no reason to encourage them.

As for the other nonsense, like cutting to a UW volleyball media interview rather than showing a replay of Heise's series-opening goal, or the camera man who couldn't keep up with the puck in the first period on Saturday, the place is called Madtown for a reason.

I wanted to see the replay of that goal too so analyze Watts the %#&! happened. It was really in poor taste to score so quickly, she should have a little respect for the home fans and let us stay lathered up for longer before scoring. How rude.

The overhead shot for the beginning of the second period, as you describe, made me think the main camera person snuck off for a heater (or maybe a little thinner) before the action resumed and didn't quite make it back in time.

Even with all that, it was still better than the Yuckeyes stream.

Is the snow storm really that bad, or have people stopped going to Gopher women's games? Because that crowd is pretty sparse...

The roads are very slippery...Coming home from work was slow going. It has continued snowing steadily so it will definitely affect the attendance this evening.

On the other hand with Minnesota having some struggles the last couple of years, it has also affected attendance.

Gophers lead 1-0 after two periods.

And there is the goaltender lapse that is so Minnesota...2-1 UMD leading.

FFS how do you get beat short side from that angle?

I remember a Saturday afternoon game in 2009 or 2010 (against ??) when it had been snowing much of the overnight; the city busses where still running, but I still had to trudge the last half-mile through a good foot of snow(I had to go it an ATM first to get some cash). Yeah, the crowd that day was rather small. Because i had nothing better to do, and I wasn't gonna get any other exercise for a couple days, I "walked" the three miles home.
