Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

So 5-1 after two. Pannek with the 5th goal after missing what looked like an open net.

That miss was a thing of beauty though. Nerves of steel waiting for the perfect shot and she had it. Glad to see the ensuing chaos got her the goal

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Taylor Williamson only had a single assist (though it was glorious), but she continues to be a real force. Two of the Gophers' best and most consistent forwards are whoever is on a line with her.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Once again, I couldn't get to the audio through gophersports.com . . . but the video feed is using Dan as its audio, so it's all good.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

The Gophers sagged badly about six minutes into the game and Vermont tied it at one. However, the refs missed a brutal interference penalty that sprung the Vermont goal scorer free. They haven't called a thing, and it's been ridiculous.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Heise scores what was really another shortie to make it 2-1 as a penalty to Boreen expired, but the Gophers absolutely do not deserve to be ahead at this point. They've been awful for the last ten minutes.

That said, the refs have been worse, and very much tilted in Vermont's favor.

Edit: The Gophers get a bad call back. Christ, these guys are bad. WCHA refs aren't looking so awful right now.

I don't care what the official score is. That was such an obvious interference call on Vermont that the score is 2-0 for the Gophers after 1 period.

"Our refs suck" is the one thing all Hockey East fans can agree on

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Credit to Vermont for really stepping it up in the last fifteen minutes of that period, but Minnesota's play over that stretch was characterized by Pannek coming inches from bouncing the puck off of Marshall and past Gulstene.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Minnesota really has issues on Saturday. Very perplexing. Gotta give Vermont some credit however for taking advantage of the mistakes.

Woken, not Boreen. Dan missed the number.

They've been awful for the last ten minutes.
I thought it was more a case of Vermont kids being very good once they got a shift under them. They look very inspired to win their own tourney for the first time.

I disagree with that as well. They missed the pick on the goal, it's true, but the kids skated around for another five seconds, so we should have recovered. Both penalty calls at the end of the period were legit; maybe she can't skate around with her arm up, I don't know, but she made the right calls.

Yeah, we're going to have to disagree. There were a number of things in the first ten minutes that should have been called but weren't.

That I can agree with, but it's also true of just about every WCHA game I've ever seen. I'd rather have that then a penalty called every 30 seconds, though.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

The first few minutes of the second have been pretty even, but Amy Potomak cashes in on a scramble around the Vermont net to make it 3-1.

The audio has now disappeared.

Vermont deserves some credit but some of the passing by the Gophers has been just head scratchingly bad when not under pressure. VU looks to be better than SLU which is not what I was expecting.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Oden scores to make it 4-1, as Minnesota is starting to take the game over. Vermont has spurts where they have good chances, but the puck is at the other end an awful lot. And several times, Catamount forecheckers have been caught up ice giving the Gophers good chances in transition, which is what Oden converted.

I kinda figured, with the way we were going in the first, that we weren't gonna be able to sustain it just because of fatigue if nothing else.

That A.Potomak/Heise/Oden line is killing us.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2018-2019

Minnesota is ahead but somehow they have avoided scoring 8 or 9 goals so far...

OMG, it's the stunned Goat routine...

This Gopher team legitimately goes four lines deep, all of which can score and all of which can take over a game. It's the first time since 2013 that they are deeper than Wisconsin in forward depth.
