Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

They did win it...that's the point. In fact, SCSU had already clinched at least a share of it on Friday night, the Gophers had not. Therefore, the WCHA's decision to bring the Mac to the Gopher game for a post game celebration was a bit risky on their part and secondly, from a business standpoint a completely inappropriate slap in the face to SCSU. SCSU fans have every right to be upset. If UND had won their share, they should have made some noise too. McLeod screwed it up.

Put a UMD guy in charge....

I guess I made the cut. Wow.

Yeah nice work, just scrolling through the last page here on this thread I counted 3 that had suspensions under their names, not including Dubbs. lol

I'm sure there were more in the Jan- Bucky thread.

Anyway, SCSU should have been able to skate with it last night. My issue is with them still obsessing over MN, per their Jan rep. Guys, celebrate. You won it, you made history for your school, be happy. But nope. Jan gonna Jan. *sigh* (c) Scooby

Correct me if I am wrong here, but I am pretty sure Minnesota won the cup last year away from home and it was not presented that night either. It was presented the following week when the Gophers were at home. If you didn't notice there was no celebration in front of the visiting team fans.

I could have sworn Minnesota won the cup last year at home vs Bucky.

They did.
Schmidt's amazing hold the puck in the zone, sidestep a sliding bucky, top shelf laser with a minute or so left play.

Will we pick up some first place votes in this weeks poll? Probably wont be #1 but it should be closer. No one should get any #1 votes but us and Q.

Yep I was wrong, sorry for that. But I seem to remember it being a normal thing for the cup to be presented in front of the home team fans. I am getting old and my memory is fading I guess.

No worries!
I suspect if a team clinches on the road there is typically some sort of presentation at the next home game.

That is the way I remember it as well. I am sure the trophy will be in St. Cloud Friday night for a nice presentation.

I'm wondering how the U is going to play it out with the cup next weekend.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Seeing the reaction of the Husky fans its ALMOST like the Gophers won a 51% share of the MacNaughton Cup. They know its an equal share 50-50 right? Good to know whenever I need to push the buttons of a Husky fan all I have to do is ask them where the MacNaughton Cup was the weekend they first won it.

Re: Minnesota Gophers 2012-2013 Part II: Mmmm, Iron City Beer!

Sorry, we still haven't lost the cup.

How do you know the WCHA made the decision? It's not the WCHA's cup. If anything, it was Minnesota's or Tech's decision.

Are you kidding me? Who celebrates and when has always been an executive decision of the WCHA office, namely the commish McLeod and Doug Spencer, Associate Commissioner for Public Relations.

Teams which have shared the MacNaughton Cup in the past have staggered their trophy presentations over two weekends, with one school hoisting the Cup during the last weekend of the regular season and the other school waiting until the first round of the WCHA playoffs.

Since SCSU had already clinched at least a share of it on Friday, they should have had first crack at the celebration this weekend. That's fair. I don't think most Gopher fans are that narrow minded to have a problem with that.

I appreciate the sentiment. Thanks.

Source?

McLeod replied to my email and said "they requested it be delivered in st cloud next weekend". I hope so. Motzko and Lucia are good friends so it is possible Motzko told Lucia to hold onto it. I am glad brent came around and harley and some of the other gopher fans realize why some of us were unhappy. It isn't a jan/marcia thing. It is a our players earned it just as much as the gophers, they should get to hoist the trophy thing.

I think most Gopher fans understand what you guys are saying, and I agree the fair thing would have been to have the Mac in Madison this past weekend. Hopefully you guys do get a chance to skate the Mac this weekend as your team and fans certainly deserve it.

We got it, but I was tired of some of your fans whining about it, instead of celebrating that you actually won something. :)

I'm sure his reply was followed by an apology from you and your fanbase (and everyone else) on here for calling him and the WCHA out for this huge, disrespectful snub...

I still can say I really don't see what there is to whine about, you won, for the first time, celebrate! Who gives a **** if you have the trophy the exact second you first won? You'll have that championship banner forever, be Happy.
