Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010 the last year of the old WCHA

Lofquiist will always be remembered for the "earcup" goal(aka where was my Wisconsin offer?) at the Kohl Center. Seemed like a solid prospect then, but never scored a goal since then and his play went to a complete downward spiral after that moment. Talk about karma.....

not to nitpick, but I believe Lofquist did the jersey pop. The earcup will always be remembered for Kessel.

I wonder what he is going to do. Can't be too many teams lining up to get him to join. But hope he catches on somewhere.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010 the last year of the old WCHA

Don't all North Dakota players first play major junior in Canada?

You're responding to a DU fan. Most of their players play a few seasons in the ECHL before appearing on the DU campus. ;)

I remember that game. I believe he did both the jersey pop and the earcup right after his goal. Seriously. Talk about blowing your goal celebration load all at once.

OK. I was just going by what I had heard from the king of this board, guy named Smiley, or, Friendly, or something like that.
Kind of mean spirited fellow come to think of it.

Well, when you score as rarely as Sam did you have to celebrate when you can. :)

Yeah he did both and Coach Lucia was not happy after he did that from what I remember.

He indeed did both. That was when Lucia finally stepped in and told the guys to knock it off.

Caught Lou Nanne with Bump on the drive home. Lou speculated, and was confirmed by someone who claimed to be Sam's uncle, that he left because of playing time and this was a decision long in the making.

I guess I don't understand how playing time could be a concern when you play all but a couple of games as a freshman, but maybe that's just my rational side talking.

Either way, best of luck to the kid. I hope this decision works out for him.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010 the last year of the old WCHA

I can't think of any major junior players who has played college hockey. Maybe some kids who attended MJ camps as 15 year olds, but no players who ever suited up and played a game.

There's been a few. More recently the kid that went to Duluth and had to sit out a year comes to mind. The name escapes me right now. I'm pretty sure Tech and Maine have had one as well.

Wisconsin has not stuck around very long at Minnesota!! Shocked to see Lofty go, I liked the kid, but he is no Ballard, Leo, Martin, Goli. exc!! Good luck Sam, hope you go all the way.

I find it strange as well given he played in all but a couple of games last year and I believe he was a healthy scratch for just 3 of the 8 games this year. Maybe his idea of long in the making is a couple of weeks.

Maybe he felt horrible about knocking Bariball out for the season.

Well, the rumor now is that a high profile player is being pressured by the NHL team that owns their rights to leave mid-season. Of course the rumor is posted and the player is not identified, and the topper is apparently we won't know anything for a month.

Wow.

[rolls dice in hand] COME ON GARTH SNOW[/roll dice in hand]

Brandon did trade for Ness's rights right around the time the Islanders ended their prospect evaluations this summer. I always thought that was a bit odd, maybe just paranoid of Snow. Now U of M's D-core is headed toward uncharted territory, with an Islander's club trying to rebuild with prospects (puts on tin foil hat and pops some corn in anticipation).

Any idea if The Don is going to make some signings this week? I think today is when the signing period opens.

So basically it's either Garth Snow saving Ness from a decimated program just in time to draft another future Gopher [Gardiner?], Mike Gillis needing Schroeder after all the Canucks' injuries or smoke/bull****. Have to assume the Wild aren't dumb enough to pull Leddy after four games [plus DR and Lemaire aren't there anymore] and no one else left is a high-end prospect for their team, but either way it's pretty sad that we've reached the point as Gopher fans where we're expecting mid-season departures.

They wise up they made a bad decision and move on. There's no other plausible explanation. I really can't blame them for not being able to stomach rodentsota for more than a few years. I vacationed there a week in 1997 and almost didn't live to see this day. But I will admit the perch we caught almost tasted as good as the ones from WI. :D

Related to this subject, now maybe you can see why Eaves brings in boatloads of players after Earl and Pavelski bailed unexpectantly. He doesn't want to get caught in the same situation again where all the top end guys have bailed and all he can send out are 4 lines of 3rd line players.

Is this Gardiner kid related to the one @ UW?
