If they had played like Sat. night all weekend I would have had no issues. Friday night threw me into a huge tailspin though. Sports psychology never ceases to amaze me.

Friday was horrible but the team rebounded and played 100% better the next night what more can you ask?

If you guys want to already concede the team is terrible that is fine but I would suggest then maybe not watching this year because I think you are going to be sorely mistaken.

BTW watching a game at the Puke Gardens Arena or whatever they call it is like watching a game at the X right down to the cheesy dance music and 80s hits and the fake "Fan o Meters"! They also have 3/4 of their fans sitting on their hands just like at Mariucci :D

Just to clarify, my comments on the pk wasn't a critique of their play so much as a comment on the fact that they seemed to switch from the attacking the puck style I remembered from last year to a more stay at home style, which surprised me given the success they had on the pk last year. I realize that might also change, as the players get more comfortable.

I'll admit I was very disappointed in the lack of heart on Friday, given that the last couple years they seemed to come out firing on all cylinders at the beginning of the year. Saturday did look much improved. But by no means have I given up on the team after one weekend.

Frankly, I wasn't too excited by the Gophs performance Saturday. The Sioux just seemed as much deflated as the Gophers seemed charged. Remembering Friday's Sioux team...we're lucky to have a point.

All this understanding its very early.

I will say it now, as we begin the 3rd period tonight.... I will be the first to say it. Time to fire Don. This is horse hockey, 0-15 on the pp. Enough said.

Someone on GPL says that the Gophers match up well with UAA so the games should be better.

I guess the Gophers don't match up with Denver.

It's ok. According to GPL, we were also supposed to lose the games against Denver because they were ranked higher, so don't be upset that we got shut out 6-0 at home both nights against a clearly superior team.

Well, I guess my Sunday afternoon is a bit more open now that I don't have to even bother watching back tonight's game.

While we're all not happy with the results so far this season, lets give this thing some time. It's not like we were pounded by Union and RMU or something. These are two legit national contenders in North Dakota and Denver.

Sure, it would've been nice to see the Gophers actually in the games, but it's not even November yet.

North Dakota has proved so many times that even with a rough start to the season, there is plenty of time to turn things around.

Outscored 13-3, shutout three times, and currently 0-3-1 - at what point does "it's early" become "this team is mediocre at best"?

It depends on what happens next weekend. If they struggle against UAA then we can throw in the towel.

Yeah, I think next weekend will be a good measure of what this team is made of. They just got swept and shutout in back to back games in their regular season home opener. If that bitter taste in their mouths all week doesn't provide some extra motivation to take care of business against UAA, then there are some serious issues.

Most sensible post of the season.

While the Gophers have a heck of a lot of work to do, for the most part its all very correctable stuff. Its all fundamentals.
This weekend they couldn't pass, they couldn't catch a pass, they couldn't put shots ON the net let alone IN the net, and they couldn't play with any sort of organization. Makes you wonder what the frak they are doing in practice. BUT...this is all stuff that can be corrected by any team. They are going to get better. It's just a question of how much better.

Your optimism defies logic. This is not a young freshman-sophomore heavy team. They hardly lost anyone after last season. Shouldn't this mean that MN would be ready to start the season and not look this putrid? Passing and fundamentals like positioning and a cohesive breakout / forecheck are all things that a not-so-young team should already be good at - assuming of course that the team isn't horse****.

And last year they were clicking like crazy to start the year, didn't lose a game until November 22nd. What did that get them?

By this assumption the team should be exactly where they were when the year ended last year, and that's obviously not the case. They are going to get better. How much better? Don't know. But they will get better.
The only other thing I have to say about it is that it's a long season, at least 5 months, or almost half a year. If there is one thing I have learned in my years of watching college hockey, it is that the way a team looks at the start of the year is no indication of the way they will look at the end of the year.

They have nowhere to go BUT get better (well, they could stay as bad as they are, but I don't want to go there). They played two of the best two teams in the country and got outclassed.
However, saying that UAA will give us a better indication is a completle slap in the face. Since when did UAA give the Gophs the best indication of where they're at in a season? Oh well, I love the Gophers to death and even living in Kentucky where no one gives a **** about hockey, I hope the Gophs can get back on track. I am disappointed so far (to say the least), but I'll always be a Gophs hockey fan, regardless if they finish 0-35-1.

Even though he is a first year coach at UNO, Dean Blais would give his left arm to come coach at the U. He wanted to come after last season, but Maturi Wouldn't pull the trigger. The gopher woes are directly related to the coaching staff and it is time for a change. When you are 0-17 on the power play, that has alot to do with coaching. The Gophers seem to want to play "pretty" hockey, alot of nice passes (and no shots)..... Pretty hockey works, when you can actually connect on passes, but pretty hockey does not win games..... They need to get down and dirty.... lots of pucks on goal and crash the net.

P.S. Aaron Ness is one lazy SOB.
