Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

Re: Minnesota Golden Gophers 2009-2010: Calmly Step Away from the Ledge

As far as the new ride, all I have is a hot 1987 Tommaso race bike with Columbus tubing and a full Shimano 600 groupo. It would make me cry to lose it, but I suppose I could put my bicycle up against your motorcycle:D

Sounds fair. A Tommaso Forma Team level would be nice and runs about $4300. brianvf would probably stand in line for it as well. I've got roughly $22,400 in my Harley. I think we're at a crossroads.;)

I agree but I believe Lucia was in a catch 22. Either let him accelerate into the program or allow him to play at UND or Wisconsin.

Yeah, perhaps he would have gone to UND instead, if push came to shove and Lucia said develop in the USHL for a year or so. Agreed, tough gamble there. There are some very strong coaching ties to UMN and Roseau too. Don't get me wrong, Aaron Ness is a very skilled player. But has he really been a great asset over opening a scholly for another big, experienced and solid defenseman instead? He's about the same height as Keith Ballard, but Ballard was about 40 pounds heavier with a more diverse skill set and a lot of grit.

“It’s kind of a weird story because my dad played at North Dakota. I was recruited by North Dakota pretty heavily when I was younger just through the guys that he knew and he knew all of the coaches. I was actually a Sioux fan when I was growing up. I was always a big fan of my dad and kind of wanted to follow in his footsteps. But when it came time for me to pick a school, he just made sure that having gone to North Dakota himself didn’t have any influence in my decision in choosing what school that I wanted to go to. So it was pretty good on his part to let me just pick the school that I felt comfortable going with.”

Good move by daddy. He realized his kid was a noodle armed weenie and didn't want him dragging down his alma mater.

Tony will be a good third or fourth line forward in the NHL. He has good hockey sense and speed but not much of a supporting cast to elevate his stats. Here is one of my all-time favorite hits (mostly because i think mankato is a beer league team):

I am posting a warning to Gopher fans for the game at SCSU. Some ill advised freshmen went to the hockey center with over 100 ids(as thats all we need to get tickets for the gopher games) in an attempt to sell these tickets. Be aware that these are student tickets and also require an SCSU ID to get into the game. Just be wary purchasing any ticket that says student on it. Hope this will save some frustration for next week.

That, and his Dad knowing that you need a felony, or at least 3 misdemeanors on your record to get a call from hakstool.

Matson had surgery on his ankle yesterday and is projected to miss 8 weeks, which brings him in for the first round of the WCHA playoffs.

He must have snapped a ligament...painful. With ligament damage the return date can be very tentative too. The problem with ligament compared to tendon damage is there is a lot of elasticity but very little vasularity and that tends to lengthen the healing process. That's a tough break for Taylor Matson.

The hit wasn't as amazing as the asinine approach Wiley took in attempting to land a hit with his body position open and vulnerable like that. What was Wiley thinkin'? On second thought, I don't think his brain was engaged at all. He should have learned better in bantams. You NEVER approach a player to land a check with your chest open like that unless of course you're suicidal. A good player will lay you out 10/10 times. Lucia did the natural thing and put his shoulder into him to protect himself, making the hit look a lot more devastating than intended.

And then the trash talk by the MSUM bench is comical. Like Tony was to blame for Wiley's failed attempt at executing a check?:D Classic comedy gold.

FYP. I like Tony on this team, but he'll never get more than a cup of coffee in the NHL.

That will depend solely on his work ethic after leaving college, recruiters have him down for good top end speed, hockey sense, two way play, and stickhandling but he needs improvement on acceleration and overall size. His biggest disadvantage is his team.

Easily the best part of the clip. Even Lucia is confused by the MSUM anger, Wiley found out in that moment why no one except the land cows recruited him.

Well, the Gophers managed to grab a point from a better team tonight. I thought this was one of the best games MN has played all year; they did a lot of good things (and had some mistakes as well). Trouble is, we're past the point of taking solace in making strides in the right direction. We need results, through pretty plays, ugly plays, or lucky plays. Minnesota is going to have to figure out some way to beat a better team tomorrow night. Another tie is just treading water. And treading water isn't good enough when you are sitting in 7th place in the conference and firmly outside of the NCAA Tournament field.
If they play tomorrow the way they played tonight, they'll have a chance. But really, they need to step it up another little notch. A tough task.

Best Goph players tonight:

Cepis
Fairchild

Big question of tonight:

What was Larson doing on a line with Hoeffel and Carman?

Minnesota's schedule the rest of the way is murder. Every remaining series will be against a Top 10 Pairwise Team, except UAA. Even the UAA series Anchorage will be tough, the way they are playing right now.

Figuring that the Gophers won't get home ice, only the UAA series will be against a team with a worse record. Let the Dean Blais Era officially begin.

Tony was to blame for laying a shoulder into somebody's head, which you guys had made a big stink about a few weeks earlier because of Glass Jaw Leddy.

You have to be kidding, or blind. His shoulder was directly into his sternum.
