Great to see #22 in the lineup, contributing two (first) assists. Is everyone now healthy and available for the playoffs, assuming no injuries in Saturday's game?

And besides Karvinen and Tapani, did the Whioux have their full lineup tonight?

There are a couple of Gophers who are banged up and will need surgery after the season but are playing right now.

Karvinen played tonight. Tapani and Eisenschmidt did not.

Interesting little tidbit that was in ARM's recap of the game last night.

"We started flat footed the first two periods,” UMD coach Shannon Miller said. “I think we were in awe of them; we just watched them play. In the third period, we actually stuck to the game plan. They did exactly what we asked them to do for the last 20 minutes. They did it, and we had success. We had five scoring chances; they had four.”

Well besides the score being 5-0 going into the third period and Minnesota scoring the only goal in the third period there is the moral victory of out "chancing" them.

Is the UMD of old gone.....past 2-3 years looks like they're heading toward the middle of the pack and out of the NCAA tourney. Scoring stats for Freshmen is ok, Sophs is bleak.....and the 2 seniors are being replaced by 3D and 1F for next year. Thoughts?

They're now having to deal with other teams (cough, UND) also recruiting top European players. And the Canadian pipeline is even more fractured as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are additions to their recruits beyond what they currently show. Missing Stalder is huge for them, because the Bulldogs are short on skill players as it is. IMO, they will be better once they get McParland back to forward, and Villila and Stalder in the lineup and somewhat rested. UMD won't lose by six goals today. But overall, your point is correct, that UMD doesn't have the depth of talent that it did as recently as three years ago. Doesn't mean that an upset at the WCHA Final Face-Off is impossible, though.

Breaks my heart.

Davis, Terry, Gillanders, Brausen.

This is a group that we are definitely going to miss. Just enough time to buckle down and enjoy one last playoff run.

Good luck to a fantastic senior class.

Reminder that BTN is rebroadcasting one of the Gopher/UMD games from this weekend - not sure which one - tomorrow morning at 9:00AM.

DVR set!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2013-14 Season

Finally coming up for air after watching high school, Gopher, and Olympic hockey (seemingly all day for a week). I continue to be amazed at how well all the ladies do in front of the microphone, no matter what level I was watching. I don't think I was ever that composed and well spoken on a moment's notice.

I enjoyed the Gold Standard piece that Mandy posted on the blog. Not sure if it has been posted here or not, but here is the link: http://www.gophersports.com/blog/2014/02/the-gold-standard-inside-gophers-womens-hockey.html My apologies if this is a duplicate.

Watching high school games before coming to Ridder for the final two games of the regular season reminded me how tentative the freshmen had been when the season started, and how assured they are now. there were times when four freshmen were on the ice at the same time and more than holding their own. Love to see that.

yeah, I noticed that too, the two Gophers with the longest streak of not having a goal scored on them are both freshmen
I hope I didn't just jinx them like I did all the players I mentioned in a previous post :o
one has gone 15 games, the other 17 without a goal being scored on them
and one has had only one goal scored on her in the last 19 (but she isn't a freshman)

Might number of minutes played not have some bearing on those stats? And I would expect the coach would try to limit the minutes of having his freshmen D out there against the opponent's No. 1 line...
