Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2012-2013
I moved North from the Cities over 20 years ago, and the difference isn't quite as bad as you make it sound. It is clearly colder by several degrees. But when I first moved up, we'd see 30 below every winter while it was about 20 below in the Cities, and occasional 40 below with a high of 20 below (55 was the lowest.). But in the last 10 years or more, the coldest it has been getting is barely into the 20's below. So part of your perception of the difference in temps is based on the fact that after you moved, the climate has gotten warmer, so the difference in temps seems even greater.
I grew up in the northern part of Minnesota. It was pretty remote, cold, and far from civilization. It doesn't seem as remote these days now that I can drive, but as a kid when I was stuck there, yeah. As for cold, we'd often get 50 below more times in one winter than I've seen days reach 30 below in over 30 years of living in the Twin Cities, so it is quite a bit colder.
