Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Clearly we're not talking about the same thing. Tickets for Big Ten games (not uw) were nowhere near $70 a pop this season.

Michigan is a "tier 2" Big Ten opponent (uw the only tier 1), and the get in price is 33 bucks.

https://gophersports.evenue.net/cgi...etics&shopperContext=&caller=appList&appCode=

Then they've definitely reduced costs.

My invoices from 2018-2019:
11-24-18: Michigan State - $40 ticket, $5 fee, $5 mailout = $50
12-28-18: Ferris St. - $21, $6, $5 (Special Sale) = $29.50
12-29-18: Ferris St. - $21, $6, $0* (Special Sale) = $29.50
1-4-19: Penn State - $30, $6, $5 = $38.50
1-5-19: Penn State - $30, $6, $0* = $38.50
1-25-19: Wisconsin - $60, $12, $5 = $74.50
1-26-19: Wisconsin - $60, $12, $0* = $74.50
3-1-19: Arizona St. - $40, $8, $5 = $50.50
3-2-19: Arizona St. - $40, $8, $0* = $50.50

Ohio State was $50 before fees, etc. Just found the text I sent to her. So it would have been about $50+$10+$5 = $65 after fees. So yes, tickets for Ohio State last year were nearly $70 a piece.

* = It's a once per order fee to mail tickets.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

And for the record, I have had a season ticket since 2003. So I didn't have to buy two tickets last year, just singles for the seat next to my season ticket on games she could attend.

What section? Probably not the no donation section. People here are talking about get in price.

Also, your math might be a bit off. The fee is usually 10% per ticket. So for this wisconsin series it would have been $6 fee/ticket. This has been the case for multiple years now. If you bought them both at the same time, you'd have the $12 fee total, but you applied it to each ticket below.

1-25-19: Wisconsin - $60, $12, $5 = $74.50
1-26-19: Wisconsin - $60, $12, $0* = $74.50

Yes, you're correct on the fee. I was just copying from the invoice; they labeled it "per ticket fee". So it was $60+$6+$5 = $71 for wisconsin, $50+$5+$5 = $60 for Ohio State.

Non-donation section.

Updated:
11-24-18: Michigan State - $40 ticket, $4 fee, $5 mailout = $49
12-28-18: Ferris St. - $21, $3, $5 (Special Sale) = $29
12-29-18: Ferris St. - $21, $3, $0* (Special Sale) = $24
1-4-19: Penn State - $30, $3, $5 = $38
1-5-19: Penn State - $30, $3, $0* = $33
1-25-19: Wisconsin - $60, $6, $5 = $71
1-26-19: Wisconsin - $60, $6, $0* = $66
3-1-19: Arizona St. - $40, $4, $5 = $49

They definitely lowered them this year. Even the UND games were down slightly from the last time they were here. They are slowly getting close to profit maximizing ticket prices.

If they want to start filling the arena next year, I think prices for ST should go down again to:
Zone 4: Stay at 500
Zone 3: Drop to 500 (down 200). This zone is quite empty this year
Zone 2: Drop to 700 (down 200). This zone is also dangerously empty in a few sections this year
Zone 1: Drop to 900 (down 100). They are still selling these for the most part, and won't want to drop this much.

Zone 3 is already $700.

I'd drop everything you just said another $100. Including Zone 4. They are sold to opposing fans. I'm near the 3/4 border and they're FULL of opponents. Get the people in the door.

Though, I suspect you're exactly right about the profit-maxing.

Wait, I think you have your zones backwards. But yes, I agree overall.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Essentially get a free beer in Zone 3 (since normal ticket price is 25), or save $5 on a beer in Zone 4 (normal ticket price is 20).

Still a great deal for someone who would buy a $10.50 beer anyway ($25.00 - $10.50 = $14.50 for the ticket!).

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

I would also assume that most people buying beers are buying at least 2. Two 16 ouncers at 10 bucks instead of 20 is still probably decent profit for the school. This was a no brainer promotion.

At $10.50 each I'm not so sure about that. Personally I've only purchased one total since they started selling it.

This was a no brainer promotion.
We'll find out on Feb 7 & 8 how well it works!

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

Morgan Freeman:It won’t.

My bet is the school has screwed themselves hard and not just short term, but long term. That cache they built up over 100 years is gone.

Re: Minnesota Golden Gopher Season 2019-2020: Motzko 2.0

It won't make a material difference. We can only hope for a bit of momentum going into next season.

Realistic high end goal should be 2 games with 8,000 paid attendance and 2 games with 8,500 paid attendance.

Scanned ticket goal of at least 6,000 in two of the games.

Not sure. They're certainly not going to get fan excitement all the way back anytime soon, but my impression from watching on TV was there was more buzz at the OSU games than the average we've seen the past few years. If they screw around record wise for the rest of the season then the momentum will stall, but keep it going and they might show signs of baby steps into next season.

Unlike other schools Minnesota's history with hockey can come back.

Not if most potential fans share the same pessimistic attitude that some have here!
