Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Are the AAA teams/games of higher quality then the HS teams/games? I know some of the summer AAA teams are regular year after year teams and others are just some parents getting together to try it out.

In general, yes, the AAA teams/games are of higher quality, at least in terms of individual talent. But just like the quality of HS teams/games will vary, depending on which teams are involved, so will AAA. For the past few years the Jr. Whitecaps U19 team has had the most "star" players, with the Icecats close behind. At the younger ages the talent appears to be a bit more spread out.

Yes I would expect as the age goes up the lesser players drop out and some choose other sports.

Are you referring to the regular season or the summer season as I thought MN does not really have AAA during the HS season? I'm not familiar with the U19 Whitecaps but I am with the Icecats and some others.

Yes I'm referring to the summer season, as in the HS season you cannot play on any other team if you play high school. Regarding age it's not so much the lesser players dropping out as it is the very best players being asked (recruited?) to play on the top AAA teams. Lately the Whitecaps have more than their share of these top players - here is a link to their team page (not sure when this was last updated): http://www.minnesotawhitecaps.com/jr-whitecaps/jr-whitecaps-blue-u-19/

Here is current MN JR Whitecaps info. Hats off to former Gopher Winny Brodt Brown, Chris Peterson and others have done a great job helping MN Girls evolve and get exposure to play at the next level!

Thanks joe. I'm still trying to locate a summer schedule for the Jr. Whitecaps...wonder if one will show up on the site at some point. That's a heckuva team, really. I'd like to sit in a cool rink and watch a few future Gophers a couple times this summer.

I'd even buy tickets!! ;)

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Will try to find. They have kind of moved to Show Case Weekends in MN. They play the U17 vs the U16 vs a collection of College All Stars (many past Jr Whitecaps) and the MN Icecast. It is great hockey that is free.

I think they still make a trek out to the NAHA Labor Day Tournament that seems to have every D1 and D3 Coach in attendance.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Not that I'm opposed to the practice...as long as it's done with due diligence, research and an abundance of cognizant thought and a young player knows what they want...but I'm wondering if we'll see more very early commitments (verbal) happening prior to the 2011-2012 high school season...or after a freshman / sophomore season.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

It has gotten consistently earlier each of the last 4 years. I am expecting some announcements now that Junior Fest is done in MN.

To date there are 24 in US and 8 in CDN on this Forum - first was last August 16 for the class of 2012-2013

Last year on June 28 there were 12 US and 1 CDN in the class of 2011-2012

I don't want to be picky but the July Scrimmagefest is July 14-17 and in addition to the teams listed above it includes a team called the High School All-Stars which is made up of 1/2 Icecats and 1/2 Jr. Whitecaps from last year's U19 teams (i.e. girls that will be freshman D1 players in 2011-12) . I assume that the August Scrimmagefest will include the same teams but I think that is to be determined. Below is the schedule:

Do you think the skills advance more during the HS season because longer or AAA because there is typically a higher level of skill and desire per team?
