Minnesota @ Bemidji State: 10/18-10/19

Re: Minnesota @ Bemidji State: 10/18-10/19

Deserved that I suppose. Its just what they do to teams that are "better on paper" with work rate and finishing their quality chances.

Not to mention how intelligent and good looking Nodaks are.

And humble.

Nice sweep

Gophers looked better as the game went on, if they can get the PP going they will be tough to beat.

Boston College next, should be some great games at Mariucci.

It appears Michigan woke a sleeping giant. Since the ugly helmuts surprising win, BC has won two games by a combined score of 16-4, including a 9-2 shellacking of Wisconsin. They will most definitely present a huge challenge for (No. 1 ranked?) Minnesota.

Re: Minnesota @ Bemidji State: 10/18-10/19

This weekend’s sweep of Bemidji State answered some key questions about how Gopher freshman would respond on the road on a smaller rink with the physical, defensive play of BSU. Scoring as a committee seems to be the early season Gopher trend as the talented freshmen class contributed 57% of the scoring this weekend despite solid goaltending from netminder Andrew Walsh and a defensive minded BSU team that blocked over 30 shots. Justin Kloos, Taylor Cammarata and Hudson Fasching had standout offensive performances and accounted for 12 pts. (3-9-12). Speedy Sam Warning has clearly emerged as the leading scorer for the Gophers with his nation leading 9 pts. (4-5-9), and had an another outstanding weekend with 5 pts. (3-2-5).

On Gopher D, M. Reilly and Marshall now lead the team in offensive production, while Jake Parenteau quietly and consistently continues to deliver solid D to lead all D with a +7 and 6 blocked shots. Adam Wilcox delivered another stellar performance and among goalies with the most minutes played this season, he leads the nation with a SV% of .936 and GAA of 1.5. The Gophers also came into this weekend hoping to improve on the PP. However, their PP woes continue as it dropped from 16.7% to 15%, scoring only 3 Gs in 20 PP attempts this season. They've got a week of practice to figure it out before BC invades Mariucci next weekend.

Overall, a very positive performance and sweep by the Gophers as they gain momentum and confidence going forward into next weekend’s tilt with the high flying Boston College Eagles; who swept Wisconsin this weekend, outscoring the BADgers 16-5. Last season BC lost to the Gophers 8-1 without their leading scorer, Johnny Gaudreau. But next weekend the Gophers will face a dynamic BC team with Gaudreau leading the charge as the two teams clash for a two game series on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Go Gophers! Rah! :)

Agree on all counts except Wisconsin lost their second game to Boston University (3-7).

Re: Minnesota @ Bemidji State: 10/18-10/19

Great weekend. I'm not concerned at all about special teams. A lot of new faces and it takes a bit of time. They are scoring well and it is just a matter of time before they get the wrinkles ironed out on the PP. Same with PK.

I will say that I don't really like Boyd on the #1 PP unit. I'd prefer that change.

Reilly needs to make some smarter plays with the puck. He's a little too careless with it at times (i.e. the first goal of the game tonight). I'd like to just see him move the puck to open guy a little more instead of trying to lug it up ice. Utilize the speed of the forwards in transition a little more.

Nothing to add on the freshmen. I was very happy with how Bischoff played tonight. If he can maintain that, he should be in the lineup more.

They've certainly got the scoring potential turn the PP around like they did last season. Funny...they had the identical PP% last season except after 5 games (3/20 or 15%) before becoming the #1 PP in the nation. After last night, I don't think we'll see Boyd on the #1 PP unit anymore. He had a terrible game at C losing 8/12 FO. Thanks Hammy. :)

Re: Minnesota @ Bemidji State: 10/18-10/19

I could not tell from replays, did Warning's shot over Walsh's shoulder deflect off a D, or did he just mis-hit it and knuckleballed it? When it first happened, I I was baffled when he took the shot, and it seemed like a couple seconds before you saw it go in the back of the net. And while in the replay, I saw it lob into the air and therefore why it took so long to get there, I never caught why it went up like that.
