Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Ugh.

Hildebrant was pretty amazing last night. But even when he was not in position when the puck and everyone was flopping around the net, the rest of the team did a heck of a job protecting an open net. So many amazing chances turned away. All we needed was one stinking point.

Exactly what you said.

Instead now I have a difficult decision of where to spend my Thursday night, as I had other plans and getting home at Midnight Thursday doesn't sound so appealing. At the same time there's this feeling at the pit of my stomach that after sweeping Wisconsin during the season, somehow this will be the game we lose to them and the season will end all too soon (of course I expect it to end this weekend, I just would prefer to make it to Friday, or better yet Saturday).

You guys deserved that game. Stunning game by Hildebrand.

USCHO has MI at a 26% chance of winning the B1G...quite high and better than that of MSU.

Actually, I don't know if I agree with that. No question, Hildebrant had an amazing night last night.

But, in terms of playing their game better, it's not a stretch that MSU played theirs far better than ours- look at the times when JR was really out of position- on the ice, flopping around, whatever the situation. When that happened, more than on MSU player got into the way and stopped the puck. MSU isn't a puck possesion team at all, but takes the opportunities that are given- which was 2. Beyond that, they are a defensive team- and they played that so well, it was incredibly frustrating to see.

I have to give them a lot of credit to surround their goalie, who was having a hot night, like they did. I think they really earned that. Sucks for us, sure. As a coach, maybe you tell the players that they need to know the situation- the odds of getting goal two are so slim that you need to spend more effort stopping goal 2- as the team needed just one point for the night to have Thursday off.

Anyway, the good news for the weekend overall- even when faced with goals that should have been saved, the team didn't crumble- which is better than they did the weekend before. So we have a better chance than I originally thought to win it. MN still has the best chance, but I don't think it's *that* bleak.

I still was impressed with the swarms that you had against MSU. I guess the case you could make is that you didn't just need one...you needed two.

I wonder where Michigan would be if we had that kind of goalie.

Boy, if you guys had a goalie...you have the B1G crown and are at least a third seed.

Looking at the offensive nature of hockey, yes, we drove most of the game. And drove it really well.

But looking at it from a "keep the puck out at all costs" side of the defensive game, they, as a team, killed us. It wasn't just Hildebrant that won the game.

I haven't looked for it, but anyone know Compher's status? I know he was injured in the Friday MSU game and didn't play Saturday.

I don't have anything official, but it was a mild concussion, if it was that. They were more playing safe- which I totally agree with. I know he wanted to be on the ice at the end of the game Saturday, as he and all the other guys not playing were at our area. As stressful to them as to us.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Good to see a few of you yesterday. Overall attendance was pathetic

Michigan gets the win. There were plenty times during that game where I thought, "thank goodness Wisconsin is inept, because a better team would have capitalized on that".

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Yea, they had plenty of good chances only to have more of a forced fluke to get in.

At least we got some scoring flow going.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Great to see Boo get a goal and an assist tonight, and Comphers goal was sweet.

Now if Copp can get one or two.
