Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Yes, but it's not surprising that what the award is supposed to stand for isn't as important anymore. The Hobey Baker, the Heisman, have become MVP awards not what their missions state.
Is Johnny Football a good representation of integrity? Probably not.

Congrats are due to the 3 in the Hobey Hat Trick. We Michigan fans know that Zach Hyman had a great year on the ice, is an exceptional man off the ice and is worthy of winning the Hobey Baker.

If Michigan would have at least made the tournament I bet Zach would be in the Hobey Hat Trick. Not sure that he would have won but he would have been there. Has it really been threee years since Michigan made the tournament?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Are next season's captains usually announced at the deker banquet? I thought they were, but noticed they were not announced this year. Could this be because Copp went pro, and it was assumed he'd captain his senior year.

Interesting development. Just checked mgoblue, and no mention of next year's captains. Hmm.

For as long as I've been paying attention yes. Copp going Pro was the probable reason, good call.

I asked around after the banquet and all was mum. I think they are waiting until they know who is really coming back. Red seemed to be really disturbed by the Copp decision.

All good points. I know Zach very well and he has been a model of what the Hobey should represent. But, we know who will probably get it, he is being shoved down our throats and has performed at crunch time.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

OK, let's start talking about next year? How much, if any, will Copp leaving early impact Michigan? Any whispers about any others leaving early? Are there any thoughts about other potential early defectorrs?

With all of the being said how does everyone feel about next year? From the in-coming class for next year, who will have the largest impact? And of course let's address the goalie situation, go....

I feel pretty good, actually. We got a report from the banquet that most of the players thought that this was a very, very close team- so in terms of chemistry- it's being rebuilt really well. Also that there are very few fears of more leaving early- not that it won't happen, but the likelihood is not huge.

Also, I think Racine turned a corner late in the season- just that the rest of the team could not. He finished with 5 solid games- losing two close ones to MSU and Minny. So having an guy come in as a grad student and who has a good record at UNH would be a good challenge for him. Zach- I REALLY want him to do well.

I'd love to say we have huge potential coming in. But I don't follow recruting for stress reasons. ;) We'll know that in October.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Huge as in born in 2000, and already 6'2, 190# huge? Sheesh where do they find these kids?

Are there 15 year old hockey recruits that are that big? Jeez.

But I really try to ignore the recruting trail, since we've had enough kids that decided not to come that it's a waste of my (just mine) time. I'd rather get to know them in October. Recruiting is just like drafting- you think you are doing well, but never know until they actually take the ice.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

See Dylan Larkin has been named to Team USA for the World Championships. This could be a very interesting test. If he plays well with the big boys, he may decide he is ready for the Wings. If he has a tough time playing against NHL types he may decide UM is the best place to be next year. Action begins on May 1 and will be televised by NBC Sports Network.

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

So perhaps as a last part of the 2014-2015 season, I just got news from MGoBlue that Steve Shields has joined the coaching staff.

Interesting.

I thought it was interesting that Tech was able to get Shields while we had Blackburn for goalie coach. No offense to Blackie, but I look forward to seeing what Shields can do.

Now let's just get Mel back from Tech.

Sorry, this is the only coach you're getting from us :p

We ran into Mel as he was leaving and we were entering a restaurant in Boston. Have to tell you more about it when we run into you next time. :)

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

Anybody heard about Michigan's non-conference games for 2015-2016? What road trips we have?

Re: Michigan Wolverines 2014-15 season

We knew it was coming, still sucks but oh well...
Well UMICH you seem to love your posts showing women's B ball outdrawing OSU hockey but OSU's website shows hockey attendance average per game as 4836.
BTW, I was at U of M Friday and saw Denard Robinson and Mitch McGary but disappointingly - no Red!
