Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Where that may be a good point, it isn't applicable here. Bennett got hit right at the blueline where the short glass starts- and got hit real low. I am not sure, but they might have replaced the glass with the latest renovations also. If you are talking about the Serville hit, he was about a foot from the glass when he was hit.
I'll take your correction as I can't recall the names of the players involved but I was trying to comment on the hit from the side that put the Michigan kid down on the ice for awhile after going into the glass. Unfortunately during the renovations the glass was not upgraded as I had been there after they were done. Plus regular plexiglas after a good hit into it would be wobbling like a student walking home after hitting the bars. lol!

Latest update from Matt Slovin (Michigan Daily) via twitter: Mac Bennett has been ruled out for this weekend and possibly for a coupe of weeks. Kevin Clare has been ruled out this weekend. Brennan Serville may skate tomorrow and has not been ruled out yet, considered day to day. No update on any of the injuries. Jeff Rohrkemper will probably move back and play defense.
*sigh* I used to think we had defensive problems. Now we have still have those defensive problems and problems finding enough healthy D men. :(

I think I'm all out of optimism for this season. Yet, I still want to travel to some of the CCHA rinks in our last season as a conference. I'm having a difficult time finding anyone willing to go to Lake State with me for next weekend.

As posted from Spath at Rivals:

"Daniel Milne has left the program"

to the OHL

So we are down another player.

Dan is a good guy, but got impatient not being in the lineup. Seven games is not a ample sample size IMO, but it seems that even with the way the team has been going he couldn't convince the staff at practice that he was better than some of the other fourth line guys. Good luck in Owen Sound, Danny.

True, but we are starting to just need bodies.

You had plenty of bodies Tuesday night. Dead bodies, that is. The boys in the striped helmets skated with all the passion of zombies from a 1950s B movie. Give BG some credit; they played the most complete 60 minutes I've seen them in several years.

WINGED helmets is what you mean. :D

BG played a solid road game and took it to the home team. This edition of Michigan hockey has made the likes of RIT, Michigan State, Michigan Tech and Bowling Green look really good on occasion this year. Quite the free fall the first half of the season.

They did play well, compared to their last visit in. Don't gloat too much. We may suck but you guys have gulped for years.

Good afternoon.

I can sum up my visit in 3 words:
1. misery
2. loves
3. company

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

How many seasons does Red have left if it continues to put up results like this? Two years ago he was in the same boat but turned it around in the second half. This season isn't starting out very well with home losses to the U-18 team and BGSU. Over in EL Anastos probably has at least two or three more years before he gets some heat, just due to the fact everyone is happy Comley is gone. But Red, he's 73. He's a legend, but he's also 73. Is there any talk out of AA that if this season continues to be disastrous they make look for someone else to start the new era in the BTHC?

It was 3 years ago (2009-10), not 2 years ago, that Michigan got into trouble early and needed the CCHA tournament win to qualify for the NCAA tournament. But what is often forgotten is that the win in CCHA final game not only gave them an auto-bid, but also raised their PWR enough that they would have qualified for an at-large bid anyway. That wasn't a terrible team that got lucky at the end. They were a good-but-unspectacular team.

Two years ago (2010-11), Michigan played in the NCAA final and lost in OT. So you can't say that Red is on a bad run of seasons.

This is the first bad season in 20+ years. This is much, much worse than 3 years ago or anything since the eighties.

I'm sure that many Michigan fans are starting to ask questions about Red's age, and there are always a few people who overreact and want to fire somebody at the first sign of trouble. But nobody in charge is going to push him out for one bad season after 20+ of success. Even Bo had an off year once.

I suspect that Red will be ready to retire soon anyway. It won't be after this year; I think that he wants to coach at least a year or two in the Big Ten Network League.

[Edit: For further comparison with three years ago, on this date in 2010, we were 7-8-0-0 conference and 12-10-0 overall, coincidentally also heading into a weekend series with Alaksa, compared to 4-8-2-2 conference and 7-11-2 overall this year. Maybe the contrast isn't quite as sharp as I remembered, but this year is still worse, as is the prevailing mood.]

We won't be fired. Maybe talked into retiring, but Red has at least earned that. We are talking 2 seasons away from an almost championship, 22 seasons of strong winning, etc, etc. Nobody is going to over react to a single season.

I know you will be bringing up your former coach, but IIRC, some of you mentioned the '07 team playing for themselves. This isn't there, I don't think.

And still, Red is in a position more like Mason was.
