Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

1998 was Princeton and North Dakota
2002 was SCSU and Denver (Molly-gate)
2003 was CC and Maine

I was not there for the '98 regional, but I was for '02 and '03. The '02 regional was the loudest I've ever seen Yost.

Indeed. Like I said, it rivaled 98, except that FF thing.

Hey - I'm going to be driving through Ann Arbor on the 4th of July and will be stopping for lunch. Anyone know if Yost would be open (I know they are renovating it) to peek my head in? Who to call to find out about a quick tour? How about a lunch recommendation? Thanks!

Technically, there's no way Yost will be open. But you may find some open gates you can get through to look inside. I suspect that it will be hard on the 4th, specifically- with nobody around, they will likely lock down all of Yost.

What kind of lunch are you looking for? The easy suggestion in Zingermans, since it's the one every one who is famous goes to on the way through A2.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I'm going to try to call the Media Relation folks sometime in the next month or so to see if there's any chance to get a peek inside.

Nothing huge. We'll be literally stopping in (any maybe not even that if I can't get into Yost). We will have woken up in Milwaukee (after attending Brewers/Marlins the night before) in the AM, crossed Lake Michigan on the Lake Express and then will be on our way to Comerica for Twins/Tigers that night. Check out my other thread...

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

I'm not really an A2 luncher, since I work 30 miles from home. For a famous, but greasy burger, Blimpy Burger is pretty close to Yost. There are a few places just up the street from Yost that others may chime in on, too. The ones next to the freeway can generally be found anywhere next to a freeway- you need to get into A2 for something interesting.

But, what I will suggest- call them before you come. Being the 4th- they could easily be very closed. OTOH, the places in Detroit will probably be open, since there's a game going on.

The other "thing"- right now, State Street is having some construction going on just down from Yost. *SHOULD* be open by the 4th, but check back with locals before you come. Getting from I94 to Yost is easy, if you know the neighborhoods.... not so much with if you don't. It's odd- just shoot a note the week before- we should all know by then.

Since you don't have Yost listed as a place you been to- too bad you didn't come to the FFFF, since we had the Posters Game at Yost. That was very cool to work with UM and Yost for that.

If you are going to be around central campus (to try to get into Yost) then go a few blocks over from State st. to Main. They have all kinds of options, from Mongolian BBQ to a real Seafood and a decent Italian place- if you are into a higher price range. There are pubs and sports bars (The Arena for one) close to the strip there and also a Brew-pub with home made brew-Grizzly Peak on Washington. If you are adventurous, head over to Blimpy Burger (Packard IIRC) or down the street from Yost to Mr. Spots. Both are economy options. Off the path a few blocks is the Brown Jug, a hang out for most of the students.

On I-94 at the Zeeb road exit (just southwest of A2) there is a Grand Traverse Pie Company and right next to it is a well known German restaurant (Metzgers.) This was Bo's lunch hangout in his heyday. On the northern end of Main there is another German place called Heidelberg. (Main is actually the business spur for US-23.)

If he's really interested in the higher price range, that's easy- Raven's Club, Logan, or The Grange- all in the middle of downtown. All of them have great chefs (who happen to be friends, so I may be biased). Raven's also has a nice cocktail menu. But that's not exactly a light lunch. ;)

Some good info, thanks. And I'll skip GTPC since my Mother-In-Law lives in Traverse City, and I've been.

Yet another jersey redesign...

(The GLI helmets WILL have wings, just an oversight on the mock-ups.)

Not a big fan. I vented my "Get off my lawn" feelings on MGoBlog's site; I've never liked the Big Chill jerseys. They're nice as a one-off throwback but as a regular jersey I'm extremely underwhelmed. I also actually like the maize-and-white trim combination on the road jerseys--the new throwbacks will probably be okay, but I'm not enthused.

I'm fine with the GLI throwbacks, though I expect the maize ones to look rather harsh on the eyes. I think the blue ones are great.

The real judge for this will be how many are sold to the general public. :)

One of these years, I should replace my 22 year old jersey, but I REALLY like it. I'll wait until it's 25. Or at least until I go 2 full seasons without seeing one the same or older.

Re: Michigan Wolverines: 2012-2013 Season thread!!!!!!!

Stopped in Yost Thursday night after I left the baseball game. Lord almighty Michigan was getting crushed by Nebraska. It was 11-2 when I left, 15-2 final but anywho...

Yost has been absolutely gutted! There's nothing left other than the end-zone bleachers and the score-board. At first I too was geeked about natural light in Yost until I remembered that the ice surface won't see any of said light. I'll post pictures when I figure out how to.

Either way I'm looking forward to the season. I think we have some quality recriuts coming in. Yost will be cool too!

Which jersey is it alfa? The classics are the best, I've still got my Maize Michigan script jersey and wear it proudly. Granted, it isn't 22 years old (I bought it in 2003) but I never plan on getting a new one. I briefly considered buying a Big Chill jersey but decided not to.

I got mine in the fall of 1990, blue shoulders with yellow trim. Whats kinda cool is that in 1994, when I started to take Mrs Alfa to games a lot, and bought her a game jersey, there were the same ones still available. What's not so cool- it's turning yellow over time. Oh, well.

I also used it as a light jersey when I was playing IM hockey at Yost.

At least it isn't turning pink, like the white game sweaters in 1991. Some intern must have put them in with the red practice sweaters...

Also, here is another write-up on Cristoval "Boo" Nieves, who is coming in as a freshman this October.
