It wasn't me flip-flopping fan bases, it's been me flip-flopping decisions. Like I'm going to now.. I was planning on GLI, but now my great-grandma's getting progressively worse, and I just don't think I can do it. :/

If it is between hockey and being with your family, its a no-brainer. You'll have many years to go to the GLI.

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For Mor

I've long wondered where he's been in the past couple of seasons, other than foaming at the mouth over the team's win-loss record.

Win-Loss record pretty much sums things up. Or maybe we could petition to start awarding wins based on effort- that way when tech outworks a team and still loses, they actually still win- wouldn't that be great. Then we could all pat Russell on the back on how well the program is doing.

Regarding discussion, what is there to discuss. MTU has about a half dozen guys who are wcha caliber; the rest aren't. This equates to Russells win-loss record. If you disagree with that, then essentially not only is Russell a poor recruiter but also a poor coach.

I'm just looking forward to change. Isn't that what it's all about - change and hope.

Apparently I'm not alone in my thinking as evidenced by the "Fire Russell" sign behind Tech's net in the first period of the Friday UMinn game.

This argument does not fully work, since recruiting is generally left to the assistant coaches. Tok recruits more in the USHL and Mikesch in the Canadian leagues. If anybody should be fired, I believe it should be Mikesch.

Ryan Getzlaf got the GWG with 37.5 seconds left to help Anaheim come back from a 0-2 deficit and beat the Shaving Cream 4-2 last night.

Why didn't Russell recruit him?!

Re: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part IV: You Guys Give Up, Or Are You Thirsty For More?

My brother went to Tech and saw NCAA frozen four appearances.

When I went, I saw a .500 season my first year with a lot of John Archibald highlights and then consistently worst results. They are my team and I continue to follow the program and root for success for them.

However, that being said, what I realistically expect from the MTU program is a competitive team that will rise to higher levels on the odd years when the recruits align. I think the big problem with this year is that they are missing their top players from the frustrations of the past few recruiting years.

Give this team CPZ and Hauswirth and it starts to look a lot more competitive.
The coaching staff needs to insure that we are not left with the single competitive line all the time. Depth will improve WCHA success.
We need to expect the off years as the group changes over.

I am looking forward to seeing Tech next week. I hope they give MSU all they can handle. They are similar to Tech in that the scoring drops off quickly after the top 2 forwards, Tropp and Grant and their top D-man.

Here's hoping for a Tech-RPI final.

That was a Northern fan, making fun of you.
Actually that was more for all the trolls who go "fire (insert coach)", without ever having the guts to actually show themselves at a game.

And why would I ever want Russell gone, he keeps MTU firmly beneath NMU year in and year out.:p

This argument does not fully work, since recruiting is generally left to the assistant coaches. Tok recruits more in the USHL and Mikesch in the Canadian leagues. If anybody should be fired, I believe it should be Mikesch.

And who picks the assistant coach(es)? In college hockey normally the head coach does so if the problem is the assistant coach(es) then the head coach better replace him/them and if he wouldn't it's time for the heach coach to go.

The comment applies to all college hockey teams including the one I root for so this is not a direct comment on if Russell should be fired but a general comment. People who are alot more familiar with Tech hockey then me are the ones with alot more knowledge to answer that question. Not me.

I will point out that having a coaching carousel isn't the answer. However maybe carousal is.

Ummm. Foxxy Woxxy, out of random curiosity, how does Tech winning 3 of their 4 last matchups with NMU put them beneath them??
