Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Would have liked your chances against UND.

Me too.

Don't think anyone thought you and Mankato would get rolled.

Was referring to the commentary during the conference shake-ups. Agreed that both teams earned some respect throughout the season.

And we don't mind the hate. To be hated means some relevancy.

No hate here. ;) Your goalie kept you in the game and the team capitalized on the mistakes we made. Makes for a winning formula. Good luck the rest of the way!

Whoever made the bull**** "embellishment" call should be tarred and feathered, dismembered, and shipped to their family in tiny pieces.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

As much as this sucks I am looking at where we came from, just 4 years ago at this time we had just completed a 4 win season and that was after starting the season 3-0-2, and being the laughingstock of college hockey. How many of us would have predicted that in just 4 years we would go 10-0 to start a season, be ranked #1 if only for a week, come 1 point shy of winning the MacNaughton and 1 period shy of the Broadmoor, win 29 games to tie for most in the country going into the NCAA tournament and then go to the tournament, definitely not me. I am worried about next year with losing Tanner, Blake, Sweeney etc but we have an extremely strong core of underclassmen and more experience than any Tech team since I've been alive, it's still an awesome time to be a Tech hockey fan.

One call does not a loss make. If the game were dead even throughout, then maybe...

We dominated for 50+ minutes of that game, but couldn't seal the deal. The embellishment call shouldn't have been a factor.

It sounds cliche, but at this point, have to appreciate a great season (for the first time in a long time) and look forward to October.

But when it comes down to it, the refs decided they needed to be part of the story. A bull**** call is a bull**** call.

Should have gotten an empty netter too. And had 4 on the board going into the 3rd. It just sucks to go out this way to a team that is obviously not very good.

Big shoes to fill no doubt, but with the 3rd line's performance last week and the sweet little goal by L'Esperance/Eick tonight, I think someone will step up to the plate!

Hear ya on that. And it's not that they're not very good because I think they are pretty good. We were just playing that much better (which makes it that much harder to swallow ;) ).

Many of us remember the Tech power teams from the 70s and have not forgotten Tech's place college hockey tradition. It's definitely very cool that Tech is once again a hockey force to be reckoned with.

And some of us only know the bad teams, and for both of those groups this is awesome to see.

Uh huh....

Michigan Tech is a quality team who clearly outworked SCSU tonight. But everybody in the tourney is there because they deserve to be there. Ask UNO after we swept them to get to the Frozen Faceoff. Or UND after we beat them in the semifinal. SCSU's record may be hovering around .500...but they're 3 wins from Title Town for a reason.

I have no dog in this fight, but, after playing SCSU 6 times this season and being present for every one of those games, they played as well against us as any team we played all season.

And UNO is a team that was 6-5-3 against teams ahead of it in the final Pairwise and owns regular season victories over three of the four No. 1 seeds in the tournament and have beaten two of the other No. 2 seeds.

They have arguably been the most underrated team in the country for some time, and spent much of the 2nd half having a wide disparity between their Pairwise ranking and their KRACH ranking, the biggest in the country for weeks.

They are a Frozen Four team from last season that won the NCHC and returned 21 players from that squad this season. They have exactly 5 freshmen. Name me another team besides North Dakota that has that sort of street cred. IMHO, yeah, they underachieved this season but found their mojo at the right time.

They get by North Dakota, a team they have already beaten a couple of times, in the Regional Final, and they might win the whole thing.

The hockey gods were not kind yesterday, great season and I hope Riley realizes what a great career he had at Tech.
The seniors were like few seen at Tech since Conner and Murphy.
I hope we can stay the course now with Jackson, Hannoun, and Gerrie caliber of recruits.
We still have Petan, who could get 50 next year.
I like our chances to be dancing again next year, but we will see who joins Blacklock and Anderson.

I hope Mel feels better and has time to reflect on what he and his staff accomplished. I watched the team all year from afar seeing them live only once at the GLI, and it was awesome.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Well said and I agree st cloud is a good team but und let them win and uno was hurt

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Man, that game stings. Still stunned. This was a Frozen Four caliber team.

Lindgren was definitely the difference that even allowed that to happen. I hate to say it, but Jamie lost that little bit of desperation edge that kept the puck uncovered just long enough. Being that far out of the crease, like he does from time to time, has produced some really awful goals against. If he's going to be out there, he better come up with it.

Mantra next season will no doubt be: Finish. Finish. Finish.

An incredible season, loved every minute of it. This trip to Fargo was ridiculous but I'm real glad I went. Doesn't make the pain any better, but these guys played their butts off and I couldn't be more proud of this team for all their accomplishments, as an alumnus. The coaches and the players have really put something special together, and the best part is next year is reloading, not rebuilding. Yes, we have a few shoes to fill: Tanner had a great season, Blake was strong all season, David was good when in the lineup - even though his performance yesterday didn't really standout, after all those snipes in warmups, Riley was solid all year long - really feel for him with the last 10 minutes of the game, Blake was tough in the corners & stepped up this season......

We have a really strong core coming back, 3 great freshman that were redshirted and more great freshmen coming in next year. Mel has built this in short order and this ride is going to be fun for many more years to come.

Thanks to the Seniors, all the players and coaches for what they put into it this year. They have made this alum very proud to be a Husky.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

You can blame Wisconsin if you like. Many of us were pulling for you and I think we may have transferred some of our lose-itude to you.

Re: Michigan Tech post season thread, hunting for hardware!

Don't know if it had any affect on Riley when he fell, but the ice was terrible last night. There was a wet streak that ran through the face off circle that looked like it went to the blueline about where Riley fell. The ice in the face off cicle never froze until 10 minutes into the periods. In the second game between the second and third periods when they removed the net there was standing water two foot wide across the entire width of the back of the net. The spots in the faceoff circle that we could see always looked "funny" when they cleaned the ice during the media breaks. Almost looked soft. We needed one of those empty netters to go in.
