Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I am perfectly aware that Tech is not doing the actual construction or running any of the number. And if they were it would be admin people and not actual engineering students or professors. Still a major construction error at an engineering school would still reflect poorly on the school, just because of public perception. With all of the new technology and processes that has come along since that board went up I can't think of any reason why the new videoboads shouldn't be comparable in terms of weight if not lighter. I'm more concerned with the spacing and viewablity, and the overall atmosphere created.

Oh I agree, just meant that it has happened on campus before. Seems any plans older or not would be digital and allow to check viewing from any seat, current or future.

A plus for former/current Tech admin is they have had some sort of campus plan on paper looking into future needs/wants for buildings, locations, expansion space needed. It is one of the benefits of Tech to have such a tight campus.

It's called BIM, building information modeling. Using a program like that can help "see" areas where things overlap or obstruct that were otherwise overlooked. Quite the technology.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

the plan there was to turn that in to some kind of club level seating wasn't it?

are you thinking something like the miller lite section at green bay gamblers games? Student attendance would definitely increase if this was the case.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Jordan Baker will sign with the Colorado Eagles of the CHL and join former husky, Riley Nelson.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I'll be happy to see a video scoreboard in the place whever it is, it just improves the gameday experience.

Some tweets from Tech Hockey Guide tonight:
@TechHockeyGuide Chilliwack Chief Malcolm Gould has committed to Michigan Tech for the 2012-13 season. #mtuhky

And not exactly sure what this means.
@scandhock Another NCAA DI Coach is coming to Sweden. Sign up before it's too late! http://fb.me/WR0jPEJK

EDIT: I did my own research, it's July 16-20.

College Hockey Sweden is an Elite Camp for players born 1997-92. You will be trained by NCAA Coaches and receive important information on how to get to College Hockey!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Gould led Chilliwack in regular season scoring this year with a 36-36-72 line, and has two goals and an assist through four playoff games. He had a hat trick in back-to-back games a couple weeks ago, near the end of the regular season.

Alright now, this has crossed the line. I come here to get away from work. If anyone starts asking about the CFM / SP, air change rates, humidity levels, etc of the J-Mac I'm outta here. BIM, stress loading, ductwork and general HVAC / construction talk is limited to my work cubical only. Oh wait, I'm at work... In that case Greenheck Fan corporation has a wide range of Revit models for all of your BIM needs which can be downloaded directly from our web site. Sorry jumbotron models have not yet been completed...

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Don't remember seeing this mentioned, but 15 of 24 eligible Huskies were named to the WCHA All-Academic Team for having GPAs of 3.0 or above for the last two semesters:

Baker, Cramer, Genoe, Gordic, Hietala, Heinonen, Holmberg, Lickteig, McCadden, Nielsen, Olson, C. Pietila, Robinson, Sova, Stebner

Also, four Huskies were given the WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award for having GPAs of 3.5 or above either for the last two semesters or overall:

Cramer (>3.76* overall, EME); Genoe (3.64 overall, ECE); McCadden (3.79 overall, BMKT); Stebner (4.0 overall, SBL)

*Don't have Cramer's updated GPA, but it was 3.76 entering the season and he had a 4.0 last semester)

And while we're at it, seven players made the Dean's List last semester:

Cramer, Genoe, Heinonen, Holmberg, McCadden, Nielsen, Olson

I'd rather see this and have the type of season we did this year than be a team that's in first and doesn't graduate it's students. This is what college sports should actually be about. Not the $$$$$

Speaking of graduating, all the seniors except Josh Robinson are graduating this semester and they have all indicated they will be attending the ceremony.

Awesome.

One of MacInnes proudest stats was the fact that over 90% of his players graduated. I'd be curious to see what that stat is over college sports as whole, I'd think that's pretty high.

College sports as a whole probably has a higher than 90% graduation rate. In comparison to the "big 4" sports, 90% is extremely good. Either way, it is nice to see those guys going through the ceremony and graduating, and speaks volumes to the type of program Michigan Tech has always had.

I suppose I should have qualified that. I'd like to see the stats for the money makers. D1 Basketball, Football, Hockey, what's the other of the "big 4"? Personally I think the way basketball and football are handled are a travesty to the name "college" sports, but that's another story....

I don't know...perhaps just a "Big 3" then (or perhaps Women's Bball, maybe baseball)? And I agree about basketball and football...
