Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

According to Google Maps: 359 mi, 6 hours 27 mins. Through the edge of the Denali Wilderness Park.

Would be a fantastic drive if the weather cooperated.

IS a fantastic drive. The canyons at the north end of Denali Park do a great job of making you feel small.

Michigan Tech news today:

Josh Robinson signs with AHL's Texas Stars http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18800&ATCLID=205436762

Stephen Anderson tweeted that he spoke with Mel today and to watch the DMG for updates, he also tweeted a pic of all the tubing that's installed

We have a new recruit, Evan Anderson of Colorado, a forward, he's playing for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL next year

Edit to add Penticton Vees blog post:

PRESS RELEASE:

“Penticton, BC- The Penticton Vees Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce recruit Evan Anderson has committed to the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Anderson, 18, hails from Littleton, Colorado where he just completed his final season with the Colorado Thunderbirds Major Midget U18 team in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. Anderson led the team in scoring with 15 goals and 31 points in 39 games, helping guide the T-birds to the Rocky Mountain District Championship, and a National Championship appearance in Williamsville, New York.

Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson says Anderson is a great pickup for the Huskies, “Evan is coming off a great season in Colorado where he was a leader and a go-to player for his team. Mel Pearson is doing great things with Michigan Tech and that program is already turning a lot of heads in the WCHA.”

This past season, under first-year Head Coach Mel Pearson, the Huskies assembled a 16-19-4 record and advanced to the WCHA Tournament quarter-final. A remarkable year, after the Huskies finished with only four wins the previous season. For his efforts, Pearson was named the WCHA Coach of the Year in March. The Huskies have and been a member of the WCHA since 1959 and they play out of the John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Michigan.

The Vees have a connection with Michigan Tech, as two alumni suited up for the Huskies recently in Deron Cousens (2007-2011) and Alex MacLeod (2008-2012).”

Who knows anything about when they're going to release the next jersey? The last day of the month again?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Is there a fog in the Mac? Yesterday there seemed to be a great deal of detailed inspection going on. Was there a problem that was being checked on? A "minor" error in installation or just the usual looking for stray bits and pieces?

Hey Shirtless,

Can we expect Future Huskies interviews with Jamie Phillips and Malcolm Gould? This series is one of the best parts of Tech Hockey Guide.

First up is a commitment article on Evan Anderson...I will see what I can do about a Future Huskies interview with Phillips and Gould.

Here's a link to the Mining Gazette's photo gallery of the concrete pour yesterday:

Thanks for that. Much better than the web cam at times, answers a number of my questions.
It appears that this cement was poured fairly stiff. I saw someone walking on it at 5 pm which surprised me, and very little water came to the top when it was worked, which also surprised me.

Anyone know if there will be any of the after pour treatments put on it?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

food for thought is that it's possible a future "new wcha" school will never make it there if the NCHC decides to invite another school in by 2013

Nice to see all the improvements to the Mac over the past few seasons. When they get the new scoreboard, it will be even better. Excellent work by Suzanne, Dave Nordstrom and to all the alumni who have made contributions toward enhancing the Husky program. 40 years and it's still one of the best places in the country to watch a game.
