Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

The official Tech announcment today that Gould and Phillips are on the 2012-13 roster.

http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/...3&SPID=10914&DB_OEM_ID=18800&ATCLID=205420341

The roster page has been updated with the incoming freshman.

So no Vallis it seems like?

Also, I don't think either of these goalies are a Corson Cramer, do we need to find a way to stagger them so they aren't in the same class?
Max Vallis is still quite likely to be on the 2012-13 roster, I can't really elaborate other than there are reasons that MTU can't officially add him at this time, etc.

Phillips and Copley are both starter caliber goalies so the 2012-13 roster won't have a Cramer/Hachey type guy. I'm sure MTU wanted to stagger those two but was unable to get both to be Huskies without getting both to start college this season.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Weren't both Hachey and Cramer basically brought in at the last minute due to losses of goalies. i.e. Teslak and whoever, lol.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I'm not sure about Hatch, but the Coin Collector was definitely brought in as a third-stringer, originally behind Red Light Robbie and Robo.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Not hockey news, but the Green Bay Packers have signed alumnus DL Drew Vanderlin.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

For those that don't use Twitter, some Stephen Anderson tweets today:

- Pearson is in Naples for the coaches meetings
- All ice is out in the Copper Country - Demo starts Monday
- He'll have a hockey article in the DMG Saturday
- Person and Walk Kyle spoke today at 1 - not finalized by NUM/Tech games in 2012/13 will likely be on Tuesdays
- Saturdays article will be on the recruits - Copley, Phillips, Hyland, Eick, Gould, Khaira & Petan
- OT being discussed at the convention - Perason like the 5x5 for 5 mins - 5/9 Tech OT games decided in 5 mins
- Non-conference teams for 2013/14 and beyond interested in home and away with Tech - UMD, UW, UND, Michigan, Notre Dame
- Tech will have all new Home/Away/Alternate uniforms, will likely unveil 1 a month between May and July - they're more throwback, NHL style
I read the article with great interest. Quite well done by Stephen Anderson. The most important thing for me was when the coach mentioned that Gould was very creative with the puck. IMHO this is a real big deal. You don't find creative kids that often and they can make things happen even if their personal stats are not that good. A buddy of mine who coaches top soccer prospects, uses creativity as one of his most important criteria.I also liked what he said about the possibilities of Eick, and how Petan protects the puck well, something we need to do better.Overall the article spoke volumes on what we can expect next year.
I wonder when the summer semester will start and does anyone know if these guys will be on campus for courses over the summer.? also any pictures of the rink being torn up would be welcome.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

We've been told that recruits are "creative with the puck" before. I want to watch him and judge for myself.

I was a little surprised on the quote regarding Hyland. Pearson hyped him a little more than I expected ("A tremendous year in the [BCHL]...just starting to come into his own"), especially with four returning defensemen that he'll be trying to leapfrog for significant ice time.

Me too. I wonder how Jimmy Davis is doing as well.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

I get the feeling that Davis will take a big step this year, though it may take another half a season. I think he played enough last year to know what he has to do to make the jump.

Gamblers Game Worn Alt Gold Signed Jersey #15 C.J. Eick

The downside of Tech recruiting more talent... My hobby is going to start getting real expensive. Almost $250 for a USHL jersey? Yikes - out of my league. I'll wait a few years to get his NHL jersey for $200.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Speaking of graduating, all the seniors except Josh Robinson are graduating this semester and they have all indicated they will be attending the ceremony.

http://www.mtu.edu/commencement/graduates.php

The above page has been updated and Robinson is on it. All the seniors now hold bachelor's degrees.

In other slow-news-month news, the new guys have numbers:

#31 Pheonix Copley
#18 C.J. Eick
#22 Malcolm Gould
#29 Walker Hyland
#7 Jujhar Khaira
#23 Alex Petan
#30 Jamie Phillips

One more tidbit: this season will be the first since 1996-97 that Tech hasn't recruited a player from Michigan.

Today's trivia - MTU is a very traditional school in many ways including suiting up their hockey players almost always in numbers 1-35. Who wore the highest jersey number in MTU history and what was it?

Do you have any Gold jersey's for sale at all? I bought one when I was in school in I think 2006-2007 but it is a little small on me so I was wondering if you had any with your recent jersey haul from Tech. Could let you know the size needed tomorrow but IIRC I have a 58 for the Home and Away jerseys.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread

Flashy nailed part "A" of the question - the easier half considering it only happened a few years ago. Now the hard part....
Why did Nolan switch to #37 after wearing #35 his first season?

I'll send you a message.
Ryan J

Because he had an absolutely terrible first season? lol

Thanks, will see what I can do.
