Re: Economics of Liechtenstein

This Economics of Liechtenstein thread makes me look like I"m wasting time at work learning something...instead of chatting about hockey :)

Muckalt has at least one fan among the UM guys on MGoBlog
much more coaching experience; far greater recruiting connections in US and Canada; better at "connecting" with prospects; is single with no children; Loyal, honest, hard-working, honorable, sacrificing, do anything for his friends/family/colleagues, etc., etc.
I'll take positive news where I can get it. :p

At least it is still being worked on. I think that is the last piece in the modernizing the arena puzzle. I really don't like the idea of messing with the far wall and modifying that at this time, it seems like a project that should be 5-10 years out at the minimum. Though I understand the motivation behind moving the zamboni out of the corner and putting the band someplace different.

FYI, I have been "informed" (and I don't think he'll mind if I reveal this part of his info), that thanks to multiple complaints from players' parents about the poor quality of the Huskies Live feed, the camera system has been upgraded and should be much improved this fall. :)

Huskyfan can vouch for the source.

So just what is the talk about the scoreboard? Bigger? With replay?

Open up the back wall just to put the band there?

Wonder how much the check may change once the B1G starts up.

Video, similar to what is at Amsoil Arena.

AWESOME! I'd be more than happy to email the right person my thanks for this and am now even more excited for the fall. I'll finally know why dirk is screaming. :D

Its usually a good guess that Dirk is screaming because Tech has a wide open net to shoot at, which they conveniently miss wide by a foot and a half.

Seriously, we add far more to the discussion than Dumb and Dumber over there. Plus, if I have to live with Mr. Tech Hockey Guide, at the very least I should be allowed in the super secret exclusive thread.

They've all borderline accepted me anyway. At the very least, they moderately tolerate my presence.

Neg rep won't get you banned. Believe me, it has been tried. The stupid thing is that, while they are a new level of obnoxious, they technically are doing nothing wrong per the board's rules. The only thing you can really do is report every post they make as spam, I suppose, and cheat the system.
Yeah, I've gotten a few reps from the MTU crowd here that would rather have me going on full bore about the Huskies football team or even the basketball teams than to deal with those two nimrods.

But those days are over. Even Dorito is going to have sniper's accuracy after a few practices with Mel on the ice. :p

So if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to see it, does it make noise?

I think our highest priority right now should be putting together a team that will make use of digits higher than THREE under the "Huskies" heading the scoreboard. If not, we can save some cost and eliminate that light in the upper left corner of the Huskies scoring digit which would be required for higher numbers like 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. This will also give us an indication if the new scoreboard needs to be capable of double digit numbers under the Huskies heading.

Man, is it hockey season yet? We need another Europe trip to kick off the season early. We can't get started soon enough for me.

Re: Economics of Liechtenstein

Leaving aside sarcasm about Magic Mel, I'm confident this team is going to be instantly improved over last season's debacle. Why? Because there are 9 or 10 players fearing for their scholarships who are working their butts off right now to earn regular playing time. For 3 or 4 of them, it will pay dividends.

Yep. There's motivation now. And with a deeper bench (see prior discussion about new arrivals vs graduations) it's not just about keeping the scholarship for next semester, but also about playing the next night.

Last I heard, once players have been promised (and issued) scholarships, they receive them with no changes unless they withdraw from the University. You cannot take away a scholarship given to an athlete. I'm not quite up on that portion of the NCAA regulations, so I need DavyD to clarify.

Re: Economics of Liechtenstein

Mel might not be able to revoke scholies, but he can definitely revoke playing time, and no player wants that.

Also, "Magic Mel" made that Heart song stick in my head. Thanks, arse. :p

My understanding is that the players who are begging to come to Tech (traditionally those nobody else wants) are only granted scholarship help on an annual basis as it is earned or available. I've heard specifically of one player who is worried he might lose his schollie this season, but as I said I think many of them fit the profile.

Maybe it's just the full rides that can't be taken, but partials can. Glad that there is some motivation to compete though.
