Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

When are they going to post the Homecoming rules so I can make fun of double fouls and MAX fouls and see what knee-slappers they came up with this year?

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

If a freshman that is a last minute add, just months before the season starts, is on our top d-pair, we really are ****ed and may as well just give up this year.

So stick with the guy that provided four wins last year? I'd prefer the freshman.

Than let's cut everybody and bring in 20+ frosh this year  Seigo is one of the guys that helped provide us with 4 wins...Olson too, why should they be on the top line or in the top pair? Seems obvious to me that our top 5 should be B. Pietila, D. Johnstone, T. Kero, J. Davis, and R. Sweeny...

I didn't think I needed to start with 1+1 here. It's obvious that Seigo and Nielson will be in the top four and of those two I'd consider Seigo worthy of top four (and there you have the core reason why the influx of late additions to the D) and Neilson because he's a few steps ahead of the rest. Of the remaining choices, I'll have faith that the reason Pearson brought in the late freshmen is because he believes they're better or a better investment of top four playing time. Also if you recall the JSR echo syndrome, I already stated that I believe he will pair Sweeney and Davis with Seigo and Neilson; my guess for the third pair will be Sova and Cecere.

Regarding the forwards it may not be a stretch for the freshman to be among the top five or six (depending on how Baker has recovered).

I think the dangerous assumption here is that the returning players will be the same player this coming season that they were the previous season. Who knows which defensemen lived in the weight room this summer, ran and skated til they puked. I am hoping that maybe this change in regime lit a fire under certain players, and maybe the change in style fits better with them as a player/person. Supposedly players develop as they age and progress, at least that is the rumor I once heard about college age players. Maybe we will see that.

I am not saying that players develop instincts over night, but maybe additional experience will assist certain players in the process of being in better position and making better choices.

I think its far more likely that it will be Seigo-Neilson, Sova-Sweeney, Brown-Davis, with Seigo and Neilson dubble shifting and playing with the other 4 at times...

I agree with this. Seigo-Neilson seems like a good choice for the top pair. Sova should make some strides going into his second year, and Brown seems like a good pick as a guy that will get a shot to show that he can continue his improvement. I have no problem with the freshmen defensemen getting ice time, but to go into the season thinking that they are going to anchor the defense is purely asinine. We're not bringing in a Justin Faulk, Nick Leddy or Derek Forbort here.

Homecoming 2011

They haven't posted all the rules yet. And I'm not all that impressed with who they're bringing in for "entertainment" either. Kids these days have no taste. ;)

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

Anyone know the practice ice times?

Can the public watch practice skates?

I've been off the bandwagon for years but would like to climb back on.

Has anyone actually watched any of the on ice activity this week?

I personally don't think you can use anyone's prior performance as a guage for how they will play this year. I don't believe that many of the players were given the latitude to use their entire skill set under the previous coaching staff. Dump & chase and out off the high glass typically stifles a players creativity and instinctive abilities.

Too many players with good Junior numbers with limited production here. In my opinion this is a result of coaching systems not player talent, ability or will.

I'm expecting to see some suprises as the month progresses.

Practices are generally open. Practice schedule can be seen on the MacInnes schedule here.

Just out of curiosity did anyone use tundra wookie with regular occurrence before the nickname stuck with bigblue's sister's friend?
I think the creature we know of as TundraWookie is the first of her kind.
