Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

which five?

It's not hard to pick out five from the roster we'd probably do as well without, but I thought it wouldn't be cool to share my guesses publicly.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

I could probably name ten guys who I assume will be battling for the last five spots on the team over the next few weeks.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

The Kalamazoo paper is reporting that the nchc is in closed door talks with St Cloud about joining. This is not some made up item by a reporter. It came from somewhere and I think, just my opinion, but I think, from the AD's office at WMU.
There are certainly ramifications if this is true, but I expect St Cloud will deny it until such time as they announce, or if not they will deny it forever.
Otherwise appears that Suzanne etc is making lemons into lemonade.

Given the quotes after the NCHC formed, it appeared that SCSU was one of those "oooo pick me pick me!" schools that got denied, and now has a chance due to other schools not appearing to be willing to join. Pathetic. Kinda like the last kid picked for a team in gym.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

I've said before, the SCSU president's reaction to the original announcement was like breaking up with a bitter ex-girlfriend. "I don't need you!", etc.

I expected them to be invited to discuss membership when Notre Dame balked.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

With the additions, the lineup is going to be a mystery:

Here is how it looks so far:
Forwards
Top Line Furne Olson Gordic
2nd line Baker J. Johnstone B. Pietila
3rd line Gubb D. Johnstone Kero
4th line A. Pietila McCadden Rix

Top Replacements who will see ice time
Lickteig, Holmberg, Witt, MacLeod, and C. Pietila (Dec)

I think it would be an absolute crying shame if you had the opportunity to put A, B, &C Pietila on one line together and didn't get it done. If only for the sake of jersey synergy.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

If they want to leave for hopes of more money, then absolutely.

It's not only about trying to make more money, it's also about spending more money. St. Cloud recently moved to drop their football program, until a student fee saved it. I know they've got an arena upgrade on their upcoming schedule, but I'm under the impression that it is mostly state-funded. SCSU doesn't sound like they have an Athletic Department that is willing to blow $Texas on some hope of competing with the B1G's name recognition.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

Has anyone heard what the status of Reid Sturos is? I hadn't seen any news that he decommited, but it seems pretty clear that he won't be coming for 2011/12 given the current roster size.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Two Years To Prove It Can Be Done

He struggled to adapt to the USHL straight out of Brighton HS, then got injured, and after healing up he landed with the NAHL's Alexandria Blizzard at the tail end of the season, where he did chip in a few points. Due to the injury and lack of ice time, he never had much of a chance to develop this year. With him being a Russell recruit and Pearson now running the ship, I'm starting to question whether he will play for Tech.

I believe Sturos will be back in Omaha this season.

Thanks for the update. He seemed like a very strong HS player, but I wasn't aware of his injury. I thought he went from NAHL to USHL instead of visa versa. Hopefully he has a good next season in the USHL.

I'm not sure about how reliable that Kzoo article was. The reporter also said:

"WMU has a chance to save a few travel dollars and enjoy quick and consistent success in the 2013-14 WCHA"
and
"The WCHA knows Western Michigan would be the prize of its league"

I think he was "guilding the lilly" a bit......taking liberties with the truth......

If SCSU is in talks with the Nacho league, it would be a big change from their earlier statement of "we weren't invited and wouldn't have accepted if we were."
If they do jump ship, they deserve what they get as the red-headed stepchild of the Nacho league......beaten severely and often.

Let me change directions for a second.

What is the best way to get tickets for the two AIC games in October?

Show up at the door. They changed the ticket site this Summer and it no longer has athletic events.

Edit: They've added the athletic tickets to the ticketing site.

1. Drive/fly to Houghton
2. Show up to the ticket office in the arena lobby on game day
3. Purchase tickets

Trust me, you won't get screwed out of seats. As far as I know, the only games that have occasionally resulted in an SRO situation since the late 80s involve NMU.

However, if you feel that you should purchase in advance, try here.

EDIT: I see that ticket prices have gotten a slight bump this year. $2 isn't much, but they did do it.
