Re: Michigan Tech Offseason III: Screw It, Somebody Look Up The Cheat Codes
Andy Sutton is huge. Must've been the John Scott of his day.

So apparently the Institution is doing away with the Hoboness of Homecoming this year as part continued attempts to make Tech just like any other school.
Wait, what? Why?
OK, magic alumni powers activate. It's letter time. Tell them how you feel.
Welcome to the 2009 Michigan Technological University Homecoming website. Over the summer months, we have been diligently working to bring some new and exciting events to this year’s Homecoming festivities.
Our aim has been to incorporate more of the campus in the Homecoming spirit. To achieve this, we have changed our parade route to be on campus, have put the Homecoming challenges at Prince’s Point and will announce the Homecoming Court during the second period intermission of the first hockey game of the season.
Along with these new additions, there have been many other improvements. Therefore, please be sure to read carefully through all the rules and rubrics for events as many have been updated. On behalf of the Homecoming Committee, I hope that you will join us in this Husky tradition by participating in all of the special events and memories Homecoming week has to offer!
GO HUSKIES!

I know who that chick is, somehow. I think she's my sister's friend, or my sister doesn't like her. I've had too many makers to know the difference.

Not really, I'd rather my team lose the Stanley Cup finals than not make the playoffs...
And Yager is correct, but thanks for playing bb_dl and Euro. Try woofing again when the Mild finally win a conference finals game, let alone the Campbell Bowl or the Stanley Cup.
Its possible, but I think this girl came around after the time when my sister's friends seemed to be addicted to my duck. I've met her, heard her name mentioned among friends/sister's friends but that's about it.You probably tried to hook up with her.
On the little scrolling slideshow thing? The girl in the pinkish/purplish dress? That is Bri Drake, I believe. Its possible, but I think this girl came around after the time when my sister's friends seemed to be addicted to my duck. Techies want something out of the ordinary... otherwise they would have gone to Michigan or State. Don't kill a tradition just because it scares you.
Does HH mean Houghton/Hancock? Because the KBC has their own bar (open til 10 or 11pm depending on the night) and the Ambassador has Pick Axe Blond and Widowmaker on tap, if I remeber correctly ( no lift bridge ).Just so y'all know, I was in Marquette this Summer and ate at Vango's and they had KBC on tap!
Is there anywhere in HH where you have any of their beer on tap? Doubtful.
It was amazingly good, as was the pizza.
Marquette was not what I expected. Nice enough city, but not very U P-ish and all the lakefront in privately owned. I'll be visiting the Keweenaw again before Marquette.
And what's with the that rich person cult, the Huron Mountain Club, up by Big Bay? We stayed at Lake Independence and I was quite tempted to infiltrate the place.
Anyway, best of luck on the upcoming season and enjoy that KBC!
To Whom It May Concern:
I was recently sent a link to Michigan Tech's 2009 Homecoming website. While there, I noticed that many of the unique aspects that I recall from this celebration were absent from the site. I did not see a single picture of students merrily carving up old clothes to make the traditional hobo outfits, nor the Michigan Tech Huskies Pep Band taking a break from their trademark stripes to dress in the same, nor a group of hobos playing a pickup game of ultimate frisbee, nor a junked-out car that a student organization had spent the week “modifying” (tee hee) to display in the parade. It seemed like their mention was taboo. Overall, the site was extremely ham-fisted in displaying Homecoming the way Tech wanted it displayed, with little regard to what the students have done to make it so special.
I am not sure why Michigan Tech wants to downplay all these things that have made its Homecoming what it is for so many years. Having been involved in numerous student organizations during my career at Tech, I can tell you that the student body of Michigan Tech is a world apart from other students. They chose this school for a reason. They don't want to follow the crowd. They want to do something different. They want to do things that no other school in the world offers. They want the chance to celebrate who they are, find others who share their interests and values, and stand out in the world. One of the things that made me proud to be a Husky was that Michigan Tech offered the chance to do all that and more.
Given a chance to express themselves, Tech students can and will show alarming amounts of creativity, resourcefulness, support, and individuality. I have seen it with my own two eyes. However, now I feel that creativity is slipping away due to a desire for Tech to portray itself as the administration wants the public to view it, as if that public is now suddenly afraid of the very things that have made Michigan Tech so special. The message of “be yourself” has succumbed to political correctness gone mad, when there is clearly no need for such concreteness.
Without these traditions and this freedom of the student body, Tech is just another college, and Homecoming is just another parade. Soon we will all be wondering what exactly about Tech is so much better than that green and gold school 100 miles down US-41, or those maize and blue and green and white schools downstate.
To further illustrate my point, I would like to share with you a link to the 2006 Michigan Tech Homecoming web page. Notice how it not only honors, but plays up these wonderful traditions. Just three years ago, Michigan Tech was proud of these things that made them unlike any other school in the world, and now I feel they are trying to sweep them under the rug. The page can be found here: http://web.archive.org/web/20070909173629/www.homecoming.mtu.edu/2006/calendar.htm
I feel it is your duty to maintain and celebrate these students and traditions that make Michigan Tech so fondly known and recalled by its alumni, the community, and people all around the world, and I challenge you to do so. Like your students, I want to be proud to call myself what I am.
Sincerely,

Here's the letter I'm planning to send to the appropriate parties (who would that be?) I've tried to word it as more of a "hey, what happened to" letter rather than "ZOMG YOU'RE DESTROYING HOMECOMING!!!1!" I did want to leave a hint of "we're on to you," though.

You might wanna give them the name that they have on file for you for your years at Tech Mark. Just saying. Here's the letter I'm planning to send to the appropriate parties (who would that be?) No, this is not correct. The names of the parade and games have just been changed to say "Homecoming Parade" and "Homecoming Games." Feel free to still dress as you like. The only change with the parade is the location, which is now on campus due to the construction downtown.
