A few years ago, UAF had great defense and goaltending, but couldn't score for anything. 1-0 and 2-1 games, one way or the other, were common. I think that was mostly a result of Ferguson making the most with what he had as he took over the team. The past few years have generally(without looking at stats, just a gut feeling) been higher scoring, faster paced, but with a considerable drop off in defense. I get the feeling that the fast paced, high scoring style is what he's aiming for.

Good Luck to Stephen Anderson! He did a wonderful job and will be missed. I hope they can find someone decent to replace him. In the past we've had a few guys who didnt realize we had a hockey program.

Tyler Heinonen - came out of MN HS, two good USHL years, like him. He's tough around the net. Has to work on playing both ends of the rink. He got up hear a few weeks earlier than anyone else. Excited to see him out on the ice.
Brent Baltus - his smarts/patience with the puck
Sturos - skates well up/down, need to get him to use his body more
Neville - captain on a championship team at St. MIkes, good all around player

Reid Sturos really looks to be coming in hot. I remember asking about him a few years ago on this group and we thought he might not even make it to Houghton. After catching fire in Alexandria last year, he turned in a point per game season in the BCHL, which is quite a feat. I think he could have the biggest impact of the incoming forwards, particularly if he hits the gym and puts on some size.

Where does Tech fit all these guys, Holmberg wants to play his senior year as well. Is Kero kept with Petan and Pietila or used on another line. I cannot wait to see the lineup against UMD.
 
I heard that Dieter Kochan was in to talk to Mel sometime this week... wonder if he'll be our next goalie coach... again :)

I've seen the new black jerseys, they look amazing, just an fyi.

They look alot like this with a circular huskies logo.

....Have plenty of them....not sure how many are for public consumption. Most start with Shirtless and me deciding to go on a road trip somewhere.

Almost getting kicked out of a bar in Sault ste Marie
Bill getting kicked out of Grandma's Sports Garden
Me getting kicked out of World Arena
Drinking with Jeff Sauer and the WCHA Head-Honchos/Refs in St. Louis (and the restaurant striptease incident that led up to it (and the drinking challenge that led up to Shirtless taking clothes off in the restaurant))
Grand Forks - EconoLodge
The many Madison stories (KK's drinking with the future Nat'l Champs and Tech in 2006, Pinkdrink, The former BU goalie guy, Shirtless getting his clothes taken off by some player's girlfriend, the Beer + Puke + Sink incident, fleeing Brats after an incident on the "texting board")
Shirtless getting tackled, and dropped by a Mankato fan in Blue Bricks in Mankato
The Darkness drinking all of the Rum in CSprings
NMU trip where I ended up just running into "the invasion"
Post graduation trips to Tech: shirtless's ipod and its infamous videos, shirtless's minor penalty (and everything else that night)

I have been away from this thread, but when did we lose Shields and where did he go? Did not want to hear that.

And we're getting new jerseys only a year after the redesign? ***? lol

Shields wants a paid coaching gig, and Tech simply couldn't give him one. They offered him other positions, but he wants to stay focused on hockey.

yeas, that is a way big hike, with lots of freeway time. IIRC he had just enough money for tickets and a hotel room. so,he did the free breakfast, went to the game and had no money to,pay to get to the airport. talk about extreme fan!

Glad to see JJ doing so well. The Oilers attitude about WHL vs NCAA D1 is clear: "Nelson said Khaira will play more games in the WHL, which will speed up his development."
Interesting that Jujhar says “My plan was to go back to school, but after the camp, Edmonton talked to my agent.” That contradicts what MacTavish allegedly told Mel.

Nelson certainly feels that way...not sure about Edmonton and MacTavish. Nelson is a WHL guy though...played 4+ years for the Prince Albert Raiders.
