Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

This trend of jagged thick-lined logos has got to end. Every one of these examples is awful, particularly the Rouyn-Noranda logo. All Tech really ought do is redesign the left side of the current logo.

So if you could "trade-in" piano dog, what would you want? Realistic? Abstract? Cartoon / Mascot?

I don't want a "happy" logo and it seems that the more detail you add, the cheesier they look so I would vote for an abstract. I know these belong to other programs, but I would be happy with any of these on a short term basis. (I'm a fan of constant change.)

Hey... wait a minute, I thought Piano Dog was NOT cool?

No to anything like the top 3. The middle two are ok, I like the one on the right best. The last one is almost copyright infringement.

The simplicity of the logos is no doubt driven by the fact that is has to look like something 100 or more feet away. While there are certainly some really detailed and cool logos out there as well they just don't work well on a jersey. Print out one of those detailed versions 6" high and then look at it from 50 feet away... More than likely it turns into a grey blob and no longer serves the purpose. Kind of like the MTU crest on the jersey shoulders. No one can see those from the stands. They might look good in an action shot or in the gift shop, but they don't do anything on the ice because no one can see what it is other than a multi-colored circle.

Just modify the "Piano Dog". If you get a redesign you're gonna get a tough looking husky...as that is the go to design these days.

I like the logo, just think some tweaking could be done.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

Get rid of the piano, replace it with flames!!!!

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

I'm not a fan of piano dog. there used to be a husky side view with the block T ( or maybe it was an M) in the back that was really cool. I liked it, but haven't seen it in many years. I bought a sticker of it at the book store and had it in my car window.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

There was a cartoonish, snarling, fanged husky on the old zamboni at the Dee in the early 70s. Try as I may, I've never been able to find it again anywhere. It was cool.

I did some research on this a few years back and my favorite was this one:

Another option would be to use a husky paw print like Clemson:
paw%20print.jpg

The advantage of the paw print is that it scales to any size.

Remember, we're talking about merchandise, not jerseys.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

I like the paw print. but, then again, I like piano dog too. (blushes)

Either they're swapping years just to maximize attendance for next year's outdoor GLI, or maybe Western is about to become a permanent fixture in an all-Michigan tourney.

If you're going to make a 4th team an annual add... "Why Western?"
Sorry, I'm getting a lot of use from that one. That marketing plan was comedy gold.

PS - I'm not in favor of a constant 4th team that goes every year. I would be in favor of making it an all Michigan tourney rotating the 4th team (WMU, LSSU, NMU, FSU) if they think they have to choose between that and shutting down the tourney... which I don't see happening.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

I'd rather see them go Western/Michigan State every other year, and have the traditional 4th invitee from the east. But that won't happen because everyone wants the Michigan/Michigan State payday.

Why do you think that they would be considering shutting it down? I can't imagine that's even feasible.

I've no problem with eastern teams being invited. I prefer the variety in the 4th slot.

I firmly believe they deferred Denver a year to 2014 so they could have a school with a local presence (2013 WMU) to assist with ticket sales for games in a baseball stadium with twice the capacity of Joe Louis Arena. How many Denver fans would travel in, a few hundred?

Never understood why Detroit gambled with the originally scheduled January 2013 Outdoor Classic and 2012 Outdoor GLI for events to be held only 3-4 months after the expiry of the NHL CBA. Like there isn't a track record for NHL labor issues.

A few HUNDRED Denver fans? Are you delusional? There might be 2 that show up. That's all that ever show up to the final 5. Denver "fans" are terrible fans and never travel.

Re: Michigan Tech Offseason I - New teams, new scoreboard, new goals... bring it on!

So what is the latest on the video scoreboard? Are they selling the old one or donating it to another team or maybe the Dee? I would take it, but I don't have the ceiling height in my apartment and getting to the 3rd floor would be a *****.

And bbdl is exaggerating. I don't think I've ever seen 2 DU fans at the F5.
