Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Supposedly, Blais is on the list and considering it.
I believe tech can not afford to end up with a no name coach.Well a couple thoughts on this rumor. 1) If it is true, how much money would it take? Enough to bankrupt the program. Not what we need. 2) How long does he plan to stick around? If he bails this quick on UNO, how long would he stay at Tech even if he did get the program headed in the right direction? (See the Mike Sertich era for further details.) Tech not only needs someone who can turn the program around, but also someone in it for the long haul - minimum of 15-20 years if they have the talent to support a term of that length. I'm sure that was the vision with Jamie if things had worked out better. and 3) C'mon really? I was born at night, but not last night. Why leaving one developing program to take on another. That would be like saying you wanted to leave the Ottawa Senators to go coach the Edmonton Oilers...
Sorry I don't see it on any front.

If Dean Blais is the man he is worth the gamble especially if they could get UNO assistant coach Mike G. in the deal. The Tandem would build tech to a contender not a pretender.
Maybe Eric Rud is in the wings on this deal. You have a Minnesota source saying Dean Blais and a Wisconsin source saying Eric Rud.
Maybe Dean Blais and Eric Rud are in it together.
If MTU ends up with a $125,000 no name and unproven assistant coach without a track record as a head coach expect the same results as last season.
Its not our fault that KFAN brought him up...Blais has been with three different teams since leaving North Dakota in 2004. Do you really believe he is a long term solution at Tech? Do you really believe that Tech is ready to ante up another $350,000 a year in head and assistant coach salaries and requisite increases in travel and recruiting budgets to get Blais? Is Blais, who has a nice contract and strong support and a new arena on the way in Omaha really serious about making the jump to Houghton?

Sorry, but no way do I believe the Blais rumor. In fact, claiming that Blais is in the running makes the campaign for Eades look like a slam dunk.
If the realignment rumors & concerns are to be believed, the next two seasons are absolutely critical for the future of this program. Winning may not help the geographically disadvantaged UP schools all that much, but it's better to look like we're trying than to keel over and die prematurely.
But it isn't inconceivable that he'd use the possibility of going to Tech to get a bigger payday, I seriously doubt (like everyone else) that he'd ever actually make that move.Sorry, but no way do I believe the Blais rumor. Too expensive for Tech...but not too expensive for the MN Wild....Blais has a contract that runs through the 2014-15 season. I am more than certain that there would be a rather expensive buyout of the contract for Blais to come to Tech.

UNO might want Blais's Assistant coach Mke Guentzal. Blais is 60 years old.
