On another note, a little old news based on the date.

Ferris' Kaufman mentioned as potential Michigan Tech hockey coach candidate

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Supposedly, Blais is on the list and considering it.

Well a couple thoughts on this rumor. 1) If it is true, how much money would it take? Enough to bankrupt the program. Not what we need. 2) How long does he plan to stick around? If he bails this quick on UNO, how long would he stay at Tech even if he did get the program headed in the right direction? (See the Mike Sertich era for further details.) Tech not only needs someone who can turn the program around, but also someone in it for the long haul - minimum of 15-20 years if they have the talent to support a term of that length. I'm sure that was the vision with Jamie if things had worked out better. and 3) C'mon really? I was born at night, but not last night. Why leaving one developing program to take on another. That would be like saying you wanted to leave the Ottawa Senators to go coach the Edmonton Oilers...

Sorry I don't see it on any front.

Blais????? Hahahahahahaha that's sillier than believing that Woog will coach again.

Please take Hill. Please. And yes, the generally accepted rumor is that Hill's wife couldn't stand AK, hence him leaving.

And the Mac isn't a dump. Glorified pole barn? Ok, you may have a point. ;) (actually, I like the Mac)

I believe tech can not afford to end up with a no name coach.

If Dean Blais is the man he is worth the gamble especially if they could get UNO assistant coach Mike G. in the deal. The Tandem would build tech to a contender not a pretender.

Maybe Eric Rud is in the wings on this deal. You have a Minnesota source saying Dean Blais and a Wisconsin source saying Eric Rud.

Maybe Dean Blais and Eric Rud are in it together.

If MTU ends up with a $125,000 no name and unproven assistant coach without a track record as a head coach expect the same results as last season.

Blais has been with three different teams since leaving North Dakota in 2004. Do you really believe he is a long term solution at Tech? Do you really believe that Tech is ready to ante up another $350,000 a year in head and assistant coach salaries and requisite increases in travel and recruiting budgets to get Blais? Is Blais, who has a nice contract, strong support and a new arena on the way in Omaha, really serious about making the jump to Houghton?

The guy is a winner what can i say. He is coaching the world junior team in 2012. He has won with ND, Fargo, and UNO.

Dean is a small town guy from International Falls and I think he maybe prefers the small town Houghton over Omaha. Maybe he will go hunting and fishing in the UP with his USA hockey friend Walt Kyle.

Winning comes with a price. If anyone that can put the Huskies back on the college hockey map it would be Dean Blais. Do the Huskies need another thirty years of no respect? The bottom line is the Huskies need WINS and Dean Blais is the guy to do it.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Sorry, but no way do I believe the Blais rumor. In fact, claiming that Blais is in the running makes the campaign for Eades look like a slam dunk. :p

If the realignment rumors & concerns are to be believed, the next two seasons are absolutely critical for the future of this program. Winning may not help the geographically disadvantaged UP schools all that much, but it's better to look like we're trying than to keel over and die prematurely.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

Coaches rumors are not enough, now more realignment rumors? That's another thread completely.

These next seasons like many have been before and other ones will be in the future are all critical to some extent. Tech is not turning it around over night, but they have to start again.

But it isn't inconceivable that he'd use the possibility of going to Tech to get a bigger payday, I seriously doubt (like everyone else) that he'd ever actually make that move.

Re: Michigan Tech needs a new coach, what do you say Cary Eades?

BTW, I'm in Grand Forks right now. Is there any recruiting that I should do while I'm here? On the Eades front, that is. I was thinking of putting an ad in the UND student news paper and the Grand Forks newspaper, or just leaving an anonymous tip on the door of the newspaper's building.

Blais has a contract that runs through the 2014-15 season. I am more than certain that there would be a rather expensive buyout of the contract for Blais to come to Tech.

Too expensive for Tech...but not too expensive for the MN Wild....:p

UNO might want Blais's Assistant coach Mke Guentzal. Blais is 60 years old.

Dean took new USHL team with very young kids to the USHL championship. He has won a gold medal, State hockey championship, and college hockey championship. Dean is respected by US hockey coaching three teams in the world juniors. I believe he understands the history of mtu hockey.

Didnt Herb Brooks apply for the head coach job at one time but his wife didnt want to go to a small town? He was ready to take Bill Butters with him tech at the time.

Why do you think Mike Setich took the job for three years? He knew it is a great place to coach after coaching at UMD.

Blais will bring the recruits to Houghton. Tech needs another John Mac especially right now with the Big 10 forming. Respect, recruits, fans, and wins.

Dean must believe the job is a great challange for his ego. Nothing better than to bring a coach in that has tons of respect in the hockey world. Blais understands the great history of the huskies and he wants to keep it going by hopefully wanting the job. Google Blais and see how special of coach he is read about his practices.
