Michigan Tech Huskies 2024-25 - OK MacNaughton, Stop Ducking Us

Maybe it is time to resurrect D-II? Let the programs that want to go all in on NIL and everything stay D-I, those that still want to offer scholarships but don't have the NIL income go D-II, and D-III can stay as non-scholarship.

I realize you will still have movement with the portal, but at least we will have a clear cut standard on where programs stand.

There won't be enough D2 and D3 schools who will voluntarily drop down. And there are plenty of D1 programs who likely won't opt in. If the NCAA forced schools to drop down/opt in, they'd have to defend that in court. Their track record in that matter hasn't been good.

We'll have to ride this out for the next few years. It's always been the haves and have nots, NIL doesn't change this though it gives the haves a bit more of an advantage - for now.

You sure it was that? Or was Gordon fed up with Shawhan?
It certainly looks like an indictment of Shawhan. I'm not here to defend the guy, there were plenty of things I did not like about him during his tenure and player reviews would seem to largely validate the concerns many of us have heard. But I have it on good authority that Gordon was "recruited" by North Dakota's staff to enter the portal. Having done that, he certainly didn't have to reverse his decision just because Tech opted to softly fire the guy who made half the team feel somewhere between unhappy and miserable.

Interesting. Was he actually committed to NoDak and backed out?
