Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Here is what I have for NC going forward

2015-16 (8): GLI, @MSU, @Mich, vs UW*
2016-17 (10): GLI, @MSU, @LSSU, 4 left
2017-18 (10): GLI, 8 left
2018-19 (8): GLI, vs LSSU, 4 left

I guess it isn't horrible in the 10 NC game years but in 2018-19 that really sucks.

* Maybe 2016-17

The Alaska exemption could also make more games available in years where the Huskies have to travel to Anchorage and/or Fairbanks.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

it probably would be good for you but I hate the idea of having my closest trips be to Houghton or a random no con. That shuffle would also make me hate the NCHC even more because it would end up being about getting rid of UAA and MTU. I'm sure it would be fine for their results and might open up the door for non-con with Bemidji and Mankato, but I don't know.

The NCHC was about throwing together the biggest names and media footprint they could get in the wake of the B1G's move. If Notre Dame, BU, and BC had said yes, St. Cloud, Western, and probably UMD would be in the WCHA, and UAH wouldn't have a program anymore.

who knows. let's just enjoy the ride the Huskies are on right now. In regards to Non Conference, I would love to see them schedule Penn State. I was at the Northern v Penn State series in Happy Valley a few weekends ago. Great venue. great sight lines. great atmosphere.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Best case scenario for the NCAA tourney - two or three WCHA teams knock NCHC teams out of the tourney in head to head games. That would be sweet in so many ways. Denver and North Dakota can sit at home counting their money while watching Tech, 'Kato and ??? still playing games...

Those are already included, a normal NCAA schedule is 34 games, WCHA plays 28 conference games. That normally leaves 6 NC games. My lists shows MTU having 8 or 10 NC games depending on if they go Alaska, UAA or both. Based on the rotation shown for the first 2 years, the rotation will work out to MTU going to one of the alaska schools this season and next, and both school in 2016-17 and 2017-18. That will rotate every 4 years until there is a reshuffling.

Should have known that you'd be on the ball about that. My bad.

this.

I'd hate to see Bemidji and Mankato go. I like still having Minnesota league connections. **** those Nachos.

Yep, that would be infuriating.

Almost as infuriating as this.

What a great reward for the #6 seed - play Providence in Providence. Meantime #8 BGSU gets the short hop to South Bend to play Denver.

This had better not be the way things work out. Good that there's so much left to change it all around.

to be fair, we really have no idea if people in Providence really give a crap about the Friars...Providence only draws 2,400 fans per game in a building that seats 3000. Although their last 2 home games were sellouts...

Like Miami being the #1 seed and playing UNH in Manchester in 2011? Or UND being a #2 seed and playing UNH in Manchester in 2009? Or Denver being the #2 seed and playing (sub .500) Wisconsin at the Kohl Center in 2008? Or BU being the #2 seed and playing Michigan State in Grand Rapids in 2007? Or Miami being the #2 seed and playing Boston College in Worcester in 2006?

yes but Providence isn't even the host...it definitely happens and its frustrating...not something Tech fans have had to deal with. I'd rather play Providence in Providence than play BU/BC in Manchester or Providence.

I think you guys are missing the point.

WE ARE MOST LIKELY GOING TO BE PLAYING IN THE NCAAs!

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Actually that's not to bad. Lots of hockey out east.

Re: Michigan Tech, best season in 30 years, part two!

Regarding the regional, it won't be at Schneider arena, but at Dunkin Donuts center, in downtown Providence. There's a nice Holiday Inn right across the street.
It is the home of the AHL providence bruins and seats 11,000 some odd for hockey. for the regional I would expect it to be close to full, what with BU and maybe quinnipiac all there.

if that's the case, it would be a fairly hostile crowd.

Who in their right mind is going to cheer against Tech? After 30+ years of absence, we're Holy Cross, Harvard, Union, Wayne State, Canisius, RIT, etc all rolled up in one cute little black and gold package.

Consider this, of all the teams to ever make the NCAA field, only Brown (1980) has been away from the tourney longer than Tech. Other than fans of the team we're playing, everyone in the building better be cheering for Tech. We've earned it.

Seriously this; if we make it, I don't care who we play. As long as we play well, we've got as good a shot as anyone else at advancing.
