Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

Re: Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

Yup, I was referring to Shyiak being canned and replaced.
I don't have the angst your posts seem to have with Shyiak.
The Thomas hire appears to be a big move in the right direction.
And the moves Thomas has made are all the right ones.
He hired a real goalie coach. In charge of hockey operations
He has a paid video guy.
He is reaching out to not just the hockey community but the entire area community.

This is true, I've seen him a lot on campus near the Sports Complex. He can talk to anybody, and is reaching out to everybody that can tell him something. Even when he gets coffee haha

My main beef with Shyiak is that he didn't get out in the community AT ALL. I think UAA lost a lot of precious ground (and fans) while he was on staff. Hopefully things are turning around now, and Thomas seems to be doing all the right things. Yes, I do have angst with Shyiak ... for many reasons, and I won't apologize for those feelings.

Nobody asked for an apology for your feelings. You are the only one that lives with your feelings.
I do have empathy for you not being able to let go and just move forward.
The past is done and over.
It's a new day.
We're headed in a new direction.
It's a great day to be a Seawolf!

I am moving forward, but I think most UAA fans feel it was a good decision to find a new coach. I just find it hard not to make comparisons ... and right now those comparisons are quite glaring. I am thrilled that Thomas is getting involved with the community. It was great to see the fund raiser this weekend ... and it was nice to see Keith Morris on the Sully Vision. Old wounds in the hockey community seem to be healing.

Nice meeting you guy's. Have a safe trip home. Should be a piece of cake as you are traveling east.
I know Twitch had a good time seeing some Tech fans from home.

Was a good time. Last night was much better with the drummers trying to make some noise. We figured they needed to be serenaded. :) Also had a good time hitting the bells for the group of kids behind the Seawolves bench. 3 minutes of let's go tech in overtime was quite taxing, good thing we have a week to rest the vocal chords (not the livers of course!)

Thanks again for the Booster room hospitality, I've a sneaking suspicion this isn't my last trip up here :D

Glad you had a good time, sorry I didn't get to meet you! Sounds like you are spending the week in Alaska and attending the games in Fairbanks?

Talkeetna is a fun place to explore, but it won't take you long to do so. The Talkeetna Roadhouse is a good place to eat. Have fun!

Re: Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

The roadhouse is one of the best places we've ate. Many thanks for that recommendation!!!

If you're still in Talkeetna (or the next time you're there) also check out Mountain High Pizza Pie for some fantastic pizza and Denali Brewing Company
for great craft beer, if you're into that kind of thing, and the Moose's Tooth in Anchorage for excellent pizza and craft beer as well. Needless to say (and oddly enough) Alaska is kind of a craft beer lovers paradise with all of the great suds they brew up there. Silver Gulch brewing in Fox, Alaska (about 20 minutes north of Fairbanks) is also a good stop as well as the Pumphouse in Fairbanks for good seafood and steak.

Beer up here has been great! Had Denali beer with lunch at the roadhouse. We're on the road to Denali now. And still have LTE. Love it! We are thinking talkeetna again tomorrow to spend a bit more time than just lunch in town plus one guy really wants to dogsled (and the rest of us won't mind either!) Place reminds me a lot of copper harbor back home minus the big lake and add a river and mountain view. Really do feel quite at home up here.
