Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

Re: Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

I imagine this time of year there is a significant difference in temperatures, but in the winter Anchorage and Houghton will be fairly similar pretty often, I'd guess. Fairbanks....that is a different beast.

The good news: Anchorage is right on the ocean, so it gets warming currents from Japan that actually keep the temperature pretty warm and stable in the 30s. Most of the time.

The bad news: Anchorage is in a valley, so it's prone to temperature inversions where cold, dense air gets trapped below warm, less dense air in the valley and parks it there for a few days. Kinda like LA, smog and all.

Also, Rainbow Dash is best pony.

I thought you all were kidding.
(Fahrenheit)
Anchorage AK: 1
Houghton MI: 39

That's delightful.

Again, I'm not worried about Anchorage. It's the -22 currently in Fairbanks that is impressive :D

-23 in Fairbanks. Eek.

I should put on some shorts for this balmy 43 weather we have in Bah-stahn.

Thus the nickname "The Banana Belt".

Or to be simple: Sunny days = really really cold.

Woah! Woah! Woah! Derpy is clearly best pony!

For those coming up (you know who you are:)

Your for sure must eats are as follows: Whichever pizza tickles your fancy at Moose's Tooth, and the Bacon Jam Burger from Spenard Roadhouse. Glacier Brewhouse is also good. I wasn't really that impressed by the Crossbar.

One place that was recommended to me last year when we went up there is Simon & Seafort's. We went there, and it was very, very good food. It was a pretty nice place, and not cheap, but I thought it was worth it, for a good night out.

Also, I'm a fan of the halibut tacos at Humpy's, if you guys happen to be downtown.

Lastly, listen to Twitch, he won't steer you wrong. ;)

Simon's is one of my favorite restaurants, with great views of the inlet. The Glacier Brew House is excellent as well, but again more expensive.

I second everything these two have said except I am more impressed with the crossbar than anyone else is....however no one mentioned breakfast joints so I recommend snow city cafe or kriners diner for breakfast

Throw Gwennie's in there for breakfast as well.

Re: Michigan Tech at UAA: Or, How I Learn To Stop Worrying And Love The Ponies

Gwennie's is overrated. I've just never had a good time there.

Is it hockey yet?

Agreed, Gwennie's has always been hit or miss for me. I personally like Judy's Cafe for breakfast, any of there omelets with mushrooms is delicious.

Why oh why is it that we have freezing rain over snow on GAME NIGHTS? Ugh. So depressing. Be careful on the roads everyone.

Good news is with all the cancellation announcements on the radio UAA did manage to slip in "Classes cancelled but the Seawolf Hockey game will be played as scheduled."

Drat, the America One link is dead. Technical difficulties. This isn't my day.
