I'm believing it's dramatic antics on his part, not the organization.

Given that transfers can play right away could it be possible he saw he was down on the depth chart and finally got an offer from another school. Or a pro contract finally arrived in the mail. Or he got ****ed and left. Or maybe someone just forgot to add his name to the latest roster....

There sure should be some good questions for Joe on Monday.

Jumping ahead to the mid-2000s we arrive at this version of the classic "Huskies" crested sweater worn by Mike Batovanja (2004-05) and Ryan Angelow (2005-06). This was the first time in roughly a decade that "Huskies" cresting was back on the front of Tech home jerseys. Not everyone wants the #13 but these guys did and I consider myself lucky that I was offered this jersey in trade from another collector back in 2012. This jersey was released via in-game raffle during a three year stretch where Tech had the team sign all of their jerseys. Not very historically accurate to have all the extra ink on it, but that's the way they all ended up.

The large size of this particular jersey (56) doesn't convey it accurately, but the Huskies crest on this jersey is massive, nearly 18" across. It is by far the largest I've ever seen on a Tech jersey. For comparison, the crests on today's jersey are around 14" wide. These jerseys were first worn without names on the back as shown at the left. But later on for some reason the team added arched black nameplates with gold letters. They ran over the pinstriping and just generally looked out of place on the jerseys. But all kinds of weird things were happening back then. We also had a goalie who wore #17. To make matters worse, the massive goalie jersey wouldn't fit Mike Botovanja when he wanted to wear #17 the next season and he got stuck with the jersey shown in the two photos at the right which look like someone made it at home. The "MichiganTech" on the back is too low, the numbers are the wrong font style, the gold striping was too wide and even the shoulder patches didn't match the rest of the team. Then someone took a photo of him standing next to a guy named John Scott (maybe you've heard of him) who was about a foot taller than Mike, just for comparison.

Always hated the look of those. Hate the nameplate font/style, hate the logo across the lower back. Too busy.

Munson would not be able to play for another D-I school in the 2018-19 season. He would have to sit out a year if he transfers (again). He could however play immediately for a D-II/III program or turn pro as you noted. Packy was able to play for Tech last season because he did not play in any games at DU during the 2016-17 season when he was on their roster, so in essence he "sat out" that year and then was immediately able to play at Tech. Matt Jurusik is able to play this season as a transfer because he played all of last season with Sioux City of the USHL so he "sat out" of D-I for a season as well before coming to Tech. Matt last played D-I for Bucky in the 2016-17 season.

I thought they would have made a better road style. The clear branding of Michigan Tech on the back does make for a good promotion of the University when they are away from home and it is more common for teams to not have names on road jerseys. I agree that they really started looking less than steller when the nameplates were added. I think they were an afterthought because they clearly didn't leave room for them and why they were arched... who knows.

Even if Tech gave him a release or the NCAA granted him a waiver? With football players starting to transfer mid season because they aren't getting playing time it is hard to keep all the rule changes straight.

I agree. I always hated the look of the Michigan Tech plate across the lower back. A rather stupid idea. I'm pretty sure we knew what school we were. And I'm pretty sure the opposition knew who they were playing against..

I believe that is untrue, if he has graduated. He could grad-transfer for one year, without sitting out. Like Wisconsin's goalie last season, from St. Lawrence.

Rolling the clock back a bit, this #12 jersey last worn by Josh Singer (2002-03) and also by Paul Cabana (2000-02). This is the style which preceded yesterday's posting. The fan favorite "MichiganTech" graphic was boldly displayed on the front of the jersey directly below the even more loved Piano Dog. Just so much to love about this jersey for die-hard Tech fans.

Like most jerseys used by Tech in the modern era, these were recycled for multiple seasons with this one seeing three seasons of use. For the 2001-02 season, the league had all teams add a beautiful and bold patch celebrating 50 years of WCHA hockey. Well ok, a 1" by 2" black and white patch hidden on the back of the jersey below the neck line. The patches were so awe inspiring that Tech left them on the jerseys for the 2002-03 season as well. If anyone from the WCHA is reading this, if you want to see what an anniversary patch should look like, just go check out ANY other team, conference, organization, etc and see what they did. Trust me, they are all better than this patch that looks like it was designed by a first week intern graphic designer. Let's hope Tech does MUCH better when it's time to celebrate 100 years of Tech hockey in the near future.

Seems to me that it would be tough to earn a degree after just three years of college spread out between three different universities.

<table border=0><tr><td width=500 border=0>Today brings us to one of my favorite players of an era of Tech hockey where I got to watch all the games first hand from the stands. Jason Prokopetz and his #11 sweater always seemed to find a way to get the crowd going. He struck a good balance of leadership and physical play on the ice. He posted 152 PIMs his first season on the ice and totaled 405 PIMs during his four years at Tech (but still 94 behind Darcy Martini's all-time record total of 499). By the time he was a senior Proky would be wearing the "C" for the Huskies and also earned his degree in engineering.

This jersey is from the 1995-98 seasons and you can still see where the team removed the "C" after he left the team. (Tech recycled EVERYTHING back then.) This style was worn one more season, but no one wore #11 in 1997-98. Tech also removed the nameplate from the jersey. It should have a gold on white two color name above the numbers.

During the 1995-96 season Tech wore a rather understated circular patch to celebrate their 75th season of varsity hockey. It was a large "75" with the years 1920 and 1995 written inside the numbers. Yeah, I know I complained about patches yesterday too. I figure if you're going to do something like that, make it special. If you're just going to throw something bland on there, skip it. At the time the team had white, gold and these black jerseys and each jersey set had their own color coordinating patch. After the season the team stripped off all the patches, even off the jerseys that were no longer to be used. I managed to get a few of them before they got tossed and so the jersey is shown as it was worn during that 75th anniversary season.<td><img src="http://www.johnsonsjerseys.net/hockey/mtu/mtu00_patches.jpg"></table></center>

I agree. I don't think it is likely he has graduated, but if he were to take summer classes, and was lucky enough that transfer credits worked out, it is possible, which is why I mentioned it. A possibility, but a pretty unlikely possibility, in my opinion.

The Packy Munson situation has just been explained by Joe Shawhan. They took him back late in the summer, gave him a chance, saw that it wasn't working, and decided to let him go (sounds like the players had a say in the final decision too). So the three goalies this season will be Beydoun, Jurusik, and Kero.

Also sounds like Jake Lucchini will go back to his preferred spot on the wing, contingent on the development of Greyson Reitmeyer at center.

If Munson was going to be a distraction in the room, and it sounds like he was, then I think it is best they parted ways now. Get that out of the way and don't let it be an issue going into the season.

I hope the best for Munson moving forward but for the good of the program I am glad it did not work out. I think having 4 goaltenders would have been an absolute disaster especially the way things went last season.

Drop the puck and get after it!
