Michigan Tech 2016 Off-Season: Good Things are Taking Shape... The Shape of an Oval

Re: Michigan Tech 2016 Off-Season: Good Things are Taking Shape... The Shape of an Ov

Honestly, that's a steal for an MTU fan who wants a Flyers jersey. You can't get a blank authentic jersey for that price.
No to mention an off the shelf "authentic" jersey isn't even what the players wear on the ice. It's just the highest quality replica jersey made available to the general public. At least the NHL sells something close to what the players wear. "Authentic" NFL jerseys are a joke.

No mention on today's Mel Pearson Show of the roster surprise.

Yeah, not much meat to the show today...

Found it interesting how much tMel likes the new OT rules. On another note I believe he knows more about some of the Alaska hockey issue than he is letting on.

I'm not surprised that he likes the new OT rules...the rules should benefit MTU, given that they should have the advantage over most of the league in a 3 v 3 format.

Not sure about the alaska issue, but I have attempted to dig into the roster surprises and haven't gotten anywhere...

If the writing is on the wall for a UAA, which it may be, it wouldn't be surprising if other league coaches know about it. I'm sure the coaches/schools have been in contact with each other. Given the announcement last night and today that UAA has stopped recruiting, I'd say the that most of league has come to the conclusion that this is UAA's last season.

Anyone know if the subject matter is discussed prior to the show. Dirk seems to miss or avoid a lot of the meat. I would like to hear more about the team. Especially about the new guys, more on goalies, etc. More detail. Shows are too general.
Anyone else find the phone ringing in the background annoying?

I don't know, but I've always just thought Dirk didn't do much prep and so questions/topics are pretty general. My take is that if we want more meat to the show we have to email in questions, as Mel is pretty candid when he answers questions.

I didn't know this show was even happening until after it was done. Possible topics for next show:
How is Heinonen? I understand he had some type of injury taken care of over the summer. Probably why no NHL camp? Is he good to go?
Steman missed half of last season; is he good to go?
Who are the potential 4th centers?
Probaby won't answer but who is the early favorite for top goaltending spot?
Any of the new guys expected to see meaningful ice time? Again, probably not an easy one to discuss although I have heard the coach be honest about players a few times even if it could be considered negative.
What does he see in Sturos that made him comment, looks like he is on a mission. (Not sure those are exact words)

Send the questions to Dirk he will put them on air though on occasion he will paraphrase or dump similar questions together.

"My four years at Michigan Tech have been nothing but short of amazing." — Jamie Phillips
We know what he meant, but man, that "but" is a very unfortunate inclusion...
Someone must have pointed that out to whoever manages that account as they've now changed the quote for a more positive Tech spin.

Yes, was just going to say Pietila twins are 2000. Our recruits list is getting pretty long again.

Nice goal from Tech recruit Jagger Williamson.

Yes it is...but as a big fish in the "lessor" conference, MTU has to go early at some kids in hopes of getting some diamonds.

MTU currently has 7 Forwards, 7(or 8) Defensemen and 1 Goalie

D should be set through 2019 depending on when they'll actually come in....

F needs 1+ for next year, 2+ for 2018, 1+ for 2019 (again, depending on when these guys actually come in...hard to predict a this point.

G need one for next season and one in 2018 with Blake Pietila likely in 2020 after Redmond graduates.

I have no problem with recruiting early. As long as we don't overrecruit and get a reputation for screwing over recruits, which, I don't think we're anywhere close to at this point.

I'm with you...Pietila, Sturos, Heinonen, Leibinger, Auk, Gillies, Birks, Jackson, Reinke, Gerrie, and Redmond all committed at 17 year olds...plus Kero and L'Esperance committed as a 16 year old.
