Yep, I picked it up as reading for the plane/airports tomorrow.

I went in to the pairwise predictor, and though it's water over the dam now, if we had swept this last weekend we would be number 20 now, and right behind providence, and st cloud. It will be interesting to see how this affects us as the season unwinds.

Im sorry but even with a sweep of UAA, I'm not sure they get to the low teens at the end of the season, a losing NC record in a statistically weak conference is no way to get an autobid.

Any WCHA team would need to win out, especially over other good WCHA teams, and then have chaos out east.

I think we will get chaos in the east, and cc and miami will win a few more games, but I'm not holding out much hope regardless. Even the Quinnipiac guys don't think they have a chance.
Does anyone know what Havilland said to get himself suspended for a game?

Usually a nice "4Q" to the ref will earn that.

Sorry to hear L'Esperance is out, any word on the timeframe?
Gerrie up to Jake's line and Pederson in on Smith's line.
Mankato demons to be further exorciseD this weekend.
Go Beef!

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I was able to get us up to number 19 after this coming weekend, IF we sweep. Depends on the AF/ RMU games and on the b1g results, but it is progress. It will help us for ND to win, Michigan to win, and teams like PC/ OSU etc to lose.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

And what happened to L'Esperance?? Didn't seem injured during the games.. :(

Video compliments of JJM in a discussion on the UAA forum regarding the hit. Apparently the UAA player that made the hit has received a 1 game suspension after review of the hit by the league.

I realize the refs were already making a hooking call on the play but it seems like they should have called something on the hit; charging at minimum. Especially after all the ticky, tack garbage calls they made Friday and up to this point Saturday.
Wish I knew how to copy and post video. I would post the video of the crap 5 and game on Lesperance from Friday night when he supposedly grabbed the guys face mask. He has 3 UAA guys on him, swings his arm trying to free himself and happens to knock the guys helmet off. Mind you the UAA player has Lesperance with both hands at his shoulders and is yanking him back and forth.

Also, did not realize this happened Saturday night:
Michigan Tech 05:00 Michael Neville: 10-MINUTE MISCONDUCT [10MIN] 10MINMISC 10 minutes
Michigan Tech 05:00 Michael Neville: ABUSE OF OFFICALS [GAME] MAJOR 5 minutes
Michigan Tech 05:00 Michael Neville: GAME MISCONDUCT [GAME] GAMEMISC 10 minutes

Was wondering how Neville jumped ahead of Roy in penalty minutes when I looked the other day.

I obviously don't know what I'm doing regarding copying and pasting a link because it still works on the UAA forum. Thanks for sharing!

Can you post the Lesperance "facemasking" from Friday night for discussion?

I'll see what I can do.

Yes! THG has and are in fact giving an autographed copy of the book. http://techhockeyguide.com/news/2017/1/12/john-scott-signed-book-giveaway

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I believe the call against joel is an automatic, though certainly the video shows he was not the aggressor. I really, really hope he didn't break anything, and that he can come back relatively soon. I think the hit definitely justifies the suspension.
As far as Becker, Seems like he will be good, and I'm glad he's coming, looking forward to the next article. This is a big weekend for us. It got mentioned by Brad Schlossmann on the US hockey podcast that Nate Ewall, does. It appears from the article out of Mankato, that they have everyone healthy.

In short, Joel would have been better off punching the guy in the head and knocking his helmet off in that manner, so then it's just roughing. "Matching" those penalties as 2 for UAA and 15 for Joel is pretty weak in my opinion. Better calls would have been double minor each for roughing after the whistle.

It looks like the Mining Gazette doesn't have a paywall anymore. Injury update from yesterday's article:

Looking for a spark Michigan Tech seeks better effort against Minnesota State
http://www.mininggazette.com/sports/local-sports/2017/01/looking-for-a-spark-2/
INJURY UPDATE: Baltus has been lost for the season. Steman could possibly return to the lineup this weekend. Winger Joel L’Esperance will likely miss both games due to an injury. Defenseman Matt Roy, who did not play Saturday against the Seawolves, is expected to be back Friday.
