Halfway through the first, good quality video on wcha.tv

Surprised Wintjes gets another shot tonight

I'm also surprised Leibinger playing out of position is better than a true forward for a team that didn't score last weekend

Decent game for building his confidence, and it's not like it was an easy period for him - that pad save in the first 10 mins was clutch.

Houghton continues to be a house of horrors for Matt LaRose. I suspect he's coming back out after that last-second save at the end of the 1st though.

EDIT: Since when do we play The Zamboni Song in the FIRST intermission? Good God...*shakes head in old fogie disgust*

LaRose chased. We look so much better in every facet of the game tonight. We actually have some speed out there, looks like we're playing full speed vs 2/3 speed like last weekend. The problem is that UAH has only played well once in Houghton so it's hard to tell if it's us finally stepping up or if it's the level of competition.

Heinonen to Sturos on the PP, absolutely gorgeous.

Mel's postgame with Dirk - took along time to get up to Dirk, Mel said he got carried away with some recruits that are in town:
Guys did a good job focusing, real good start
All of seniors have to be leaders, they did, started with Wintjes in net
Excited for Alex Smith first goal, Flin Flon, Manitoba, he's an honest player with skill
Gerrie - really liked him, played with pace, skill, hard on the puck, real nice first game
Wintjes fought it a bit, didn't get a lot work so can be tough, stayed focused
Great crowd, thankful, Proud to get John Scott back,
Mel was a proud alum, hockey fan and community member for the turnout we got for John Scott

So what do you do tonight, Tech looked like they found another gear from their first 4 games.
Will 4 new guys be in the lineup to keep getting a look at what we have.
Anderson Beretta, Gould, Blacklock, Pedersen or Brice?

Great, an official tie, just what we needed  Stick a fork in this season I'd say.

Officially a tie, but the extra point in the WCHA helps

Mel's postgame with Dirk:
UAH played a lot harder, we were a step slow, especially in the first
They played a great road game, we had to work hard for anything we generated
Liked our team, learned some things about our team
Gould came in and did a nice Job
Kero had a real nice game too
Disappointing to give up the goal the next shift
Good to get Gerrie, Gould in some games this weekend

Yup. I would post a Debbie downer video but since they've turned off all embeds in this forum it's less fun.
we got a win and tie according to the NCAA against a team that swept Ferris State on the road. While I would have preferred a sweep, we should be happy to get what we did even after Friday's domination.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Was at Saturday's game. Overall, was happy with the effort. They worked hard on every shift, but one. Not sure if they let off the gas or if they didn't increase the pace to match UAH's tempo. Regardless, they were out skated and gave up the tieing goal.

The biggest thing I saw was general sloppiness with the puck. They relied on team speed to cover for mistakes. Lots of turnovers and weak passes. They could out skate UAH to recover, but if that's how we played in Duluth and Mankato (didn't see either series), then I'm less surprised on those sweeps than I was immediately after them. Will really need to clean up that aspect of the game.

Also, saw a little too much handling the puck in the offensive zone and it caused a lot of passes to be a half step too late. Not quick, coordinated puck movement. Might be players still getting used to playing together.

The talent is there. Still have high hopes for the year. Can really change the feel of the season with this weekend's performance!

IMHO The coaching staff took this game to lightly, maybe assuming domination like Friday night. If it wasn't for solid goal tending it could have been an easy loss. Tech had an entire line of freshman getting regular shifts, even in the first overtime. I'm not saying they played badly, in fact they had some good shifts but with points so crucial it seems like you go for the jugular with your vets.

On the MPS, last week, the coach was asked if he regretted not playing other goalies in lieu of Phillips and he said no; need to put your best team on the ice. Why a different philosophy Saturday night. Arguably your most offensive defenseman sits after a very productive Friday night. Why not run with the same line up or swap out freshman for freshman. Surprised Gilles missed another game and Blacklock the entire weekend?
Maybe they have some injuries already??

Finally on board. Have enjoyed all of the Tech posts for several years. Hope to make some sense after watching Tech hockey since 1962. Still on the Husky Wagon for 16-17...interesting freshman making a real impression.
