Coach Shawhan with Dirk:
Penalties - they're tickey/tack, but it's the game nowadays...
You can mark this down as understatement of the season. WCHA officiating has become a complete joke. Anyone who so much as bumps another player of their course is heading to the box. Anyone who knocks over player that doesn't have a direct contact with the puck is heading to the box. (Forget finishing your check, that is now "interference" in the WCHA). Regardless of how many power plays Tech received, the officiating was a joke and the one linesman that couldn't even drop the puck was even worse.

We need not fear the WCHA being tagged as a "clutch and grab" league. We'll be known as the special teams league soon enough because 5v5 hockey is no longer played in the WCHA.

Nice to see Tech get a win, but it is aweful hockey to watch with a whistle every 2-3 minutes of game time. Zero flow and if UAF had any kind of power play they would have run away with this game.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Definitely does not seem good that Mel is in Houghton, hopefully everything is alright with his health and with his family.

Family emergency of some sort. Details are not known.

It's odd that Dirk didn't even mention that he wasn't there; unless I missed it?

Someone mentioned he left AK directly after UAA series. I thought it was odd that Coach Shawhan did the post game interview last Saturday. I thought at the time maybe Coach Pearson was upset with the game results; didn't seem like his style. Hope nothing serious.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Ugh, the only thing worse than having a tight follow camera op who can't find the puck is a director who insists on cutting to it live again and again. This UAF feed is borderline unwatchable.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Really appreciated that 5 minute lapse in the stream so I couldn't see the Baltus goal too, especially since we get no replays in the intermission. Hope you enjoy your smoke break while we're treated to 15 minutes of a static slide.

UAF sucks at video.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Switched crew; last night was good. This is terrible. Worse than UAA last Saturday.
I think they are the same as last night. a few calls were ok, the guy counting shots is doing a terrible job as well. I thought they got us running around right before that goal.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Agree with all thge previous posts, this feed is terrible quality and the camera operators are even worse.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I feel like I'm spending more time watching empty ice than I am watching the puck tonight.

I believe it's student run. if its professionals they should turn in their union card.

that was really ugly, but a win is a win.

It would be good if someone could explain to me what interference is because obviously I don't know.

We gave them some really nice grade A chances but i'll take it.
I believe, without looking, that we are now the most penalized team in NCAA D1 hockey.

The reffing is just so inconsistent game to game and even period to period. I still think the biggest BS call in all of hockey is the embellishment call when a player is tripped.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

I agree the camera work was terrible. Only thing worse is the color guy...

It's sad to see players selling interference calls, but if that's how penalties are going to be called, we'll see it more and more. Hanna falling over backwards and throwing his feet in the air to get the call....priceless!!

Hope Mel is ok. He seemed upset after the UAA loss, but that seems unlikely to be why he's not behind the bench......

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

The UAF play by play guy said Tech get's to do this trip again next year, UAA/UAF over thankgiving week, third straight year. Start planning your trip now!

This can't be right...I thought it was every 4th year? If true, I will definitely begin planning.

Glad to escape AK with 10 of 12 points.

We'll start planning now, just to be on the safe side. Nothing wrong with having a sizeable fund for travel that may, or may not, happen.

I heard the UAF play by play say the same thing. The play by play announcer said when he was talking to Joe Shawhan, Joe said something to the effect that they had to plan more for the team to do during the days on next years trip. I did not catch if it was the same weekends.

You can always travel elsewhere. :)

Sounds like there is confusion all-around.
