I believe Dirk mentioned Kero as the back up on the trip.
yes Kero was the official backup but the team was allowed to bring 24 players on this trip, with injuries, my guess for the 4th scratch player is wintjes.

Looking terrible through the first 10 minutes of play.

They just look disjointed and out of sync, bad passes, poor decision making and getting out skated by UAA. Seeing passes made to people that have 2 UAA guys on them, very low percentage pass that probably shouldn't be made but has been every time so far tonight. Hopefully first intermission corrections help, especially when UAA is playing with only 10 forwards.

Well that was effing terrible. I've got no way to sugarcoat that performance.

Hot UAA goalie, but Huskies seemed out of sync all night. Tried to force too many passes where they shouldn't have with the man always on them.

It was like they never made any adjustments. Just kept forcing stuff that wasn't there.

Blah, needed 3 points instead of 1

Didn't realize it could only be one skater in the shootout, and you throw out Auk?

No Mel, Joe Shawhan postgame with Dirk:
1st period didn't have urgency, last 2 periods we were pretty good
We were pretty good, didn't score
Didn't spend enough time in front of the net,
Mantha was on, robbed us tonight at times, ran into a hot one tonight
We had our chances, we'll take 1 GA anytime, close to the shutout
We have to get some good 1x1 time with guys watching film, need some better offensive formation
Will have that time staying on the road

Mantha bailed out UAA plenty of times. UAA looked gassed last half of the game as well.

The UAA goal was buttery soft, yeesh.

I have no idea what Auk was doing on that shootout shot.

Auk has scored the only shootout goal for Tech and it was a nice one. I don't blame them trying him again.
Should have never come to that. Can't just roll four lines forever. At some point you've got to figure out who your strong horses are that particular night and ride the crap out of them. Four balance mediocre lines won't cut it.

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

well two in a row?!. I'm going to have to revamp my expectations of what Tech will do by the end of the year.
I think this is the first game in 5 years of coaching that Coach Mel missed the after game interview. I hope that is not anything to worry about.
And might we see someone else in goal in Fairbanks. ?

I thought face-offs were a big problem in both these games. Especially the important ones we almost always lost.

JJ, I told you so.

Also, let's say jj that tech plays 750 hockey the rest of the way. Not likely but possible. that's 13.5 wins. And let's say bemidji plays 600 hockey. Below what they have done so far. That means a 10 point Tech advantage through the final games. Not enough to catch up. We need 14 points to tie and 15 to win. And that's if they play 600. In other words we'd have to win all but one game. ( I think) unless they fall apart. Second, we have a real tough ride home, then it's a pretty short week and we hop a bus to Bemidji for two. I'm not seeing a sweep..unless it's Bemidji that does the sweeping.
And don't look now but BGSU is 6 points behind us with 2 games in hand.

I went to bed after the second period, I was just too tired to stay up, but this definitely was not the result I wanted to wake up to :(

This is exactly what I saw too, trying to force passes into areas where they had no business trying to make the pass to, and as you guys said, absolutely no adjustments made to stop it, really frustrating to watch.

That kind of analysis got me shot at last week. ;)

Re: MICHIGAN TECH.... 2016-17 season. The 96th season of Hockey.

Tech has Bemidji at home after returning from Alaska, these late nights will do that to you. ;)

I still like Tech's chances, but championships are won after the New Year. Bemidji as with all other WCHA contenders will have a lot to prove running the gauntlet of games against Mankato, BG, Tech, and Ferris. Lake State, NMU, and Alaska, UAH, and UAA will also take some points where they are not anticipated.

I am looking forward to some good hockey, this weekend was below expectations, but it is going to happen. Remember top center out in Steman and quickest LW out in Jackson. I was hoping to see what Anderson could do, possibly bring a spark as a true center. I know defensive responsibility is key, but let's see what we have for the stretch run.

Hope Blacklock is ok as well.
