Michigan Tech 2014-2015

At this point, I'm really intrigued to see when Blacklock and Anderson get a chance to play. I wonder if they're healthy, and if they are, why they haven't been given a chance yet.

If guys are banged up, plug 'em in and see what they can do. Unless he's trying to redshirt them. But being 3 months through the season and not seeing game action because of nagging injuries seems a little out of character. If they're not making the cut with other guys injured, that doesn't speak well of our depth.

Doubtful they redshirt. I don't recall the last time someone was redshirted in college hockey. unless it's a serious injury, it's not a common practice in hockey. I don't think Mel is comfortable throwing in guys who haven't played all year in the most crucial series to date. If they continue playing .500 with no shot at the NCAA tourney, then u might see them IMO

Both were injured either to start the season or early on...so maybe that has made it hard for them to break through. It's not like others haven't been brought in on offense.
They've gone 15 deep with the forwards, if they don't get a chance during this homestand when it's a lot easier to replace multiple players between Friday and Saturday, I'd look towards potential redshirts.

I certainly wouldn't look towards the BGSU series as the place to bring them in...FSU at the GLI would have been one...vs Alaska, UAH, or BSU seems more realistic (except for the fact that UAH is carnival).

Anderson came to campus with a bad case of Mononucleosis and has taken quite a while to get back in form while Blacklock came to campus with a lower body injury. Pearson commented on them a few months ago on the radio. I believe they've been practicing with the team but I would guess they've just never gotten back into top playing form....at least not enough to bump any existing player. The team will certainly need them next year. If neither one plays much this season, there is no reason not to redshirt them other than their age. Both are about to turn 21 and might age out if they stay four years.

We're not Carny again this year. We're the weekend before.

Pardon me, not looking that closely, I'm going a little crazy right now trying to balance work, a pregnant wife, remodeling our current house and locking in our interest rate on a new purchase, and not feeling 100%, it's not going well so far.

Chances are that no matter what you do, it will be wrong. ;)

It's not you, it's the hormones...

So you're saying that you want me to come up for a few days and help you out? :)

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Has anyone tried to access the Hobey Baker Website lately? It just scrolls off of the screen...

Also, someone posted on Facebook that the 2 MTU candidates had 4 times the votes of the other candidates.

The Tech players now have around 13,000 votes total. They used to have 40,000....

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

Can someone explain how Tanner had 40K plus votes at one point now he is down to just over 6K? I don't get it?

Phillips is down to just 2k. Something screwy is going on with the voting.

The only thing I can think of is that someone found a way to rig it, and the Hobey Baker site has been slowly eliminating repeat votes from certain IP addresses/blocks.

Re: Michigan Tech 2014-2015

From watching BG last year, they play a style that tries to bottle you up in your own end,Often forechecking three guys. They were able last year, to cause problems on the breakout for us and to intercept a lot of passes right near our blue line. They also try to get the puck out of their end as fast as they can and they are very tough once they get the lead.

They did this successfully in the two games at BG and in the playoffs we didn't have an answer for them. Hopefully this year will be different. Their weakness last year was that the D was too slow and we were able to control play by beating the D to pucks. Since then, the D has been improved and so is the goaltending. They also play hard right to the end. It takes a lot of focus and determination to beat them.

Thats my guess, they're catching cheaters and eliminating extra votes from certain ip addresses

This is almost exactly what NMU did last weekend, except they managed to create havoc with just two forecheckers.

Special teams killed BG in the Tech sweep in February, they have been much improved since then.

The key for the Huskies is to win Friday and make the Falcons expend energy. In a Winter Carnival type schedule with an earlier game on Saturday, Mel can rotate in fresh forwards in game two to take advantage. Too bad it's not one of the old 1:30pm puck drop games that John MacInnes never seemed to lose just for that reason.
