Recent struggles seemed to be caused by losing key players to form the 4 line balance they had during the 10 win run to start the season.
But, the benefit of that is developing players who are contributing at a very high level.
L'Esperance is a right handed Heinonen and will score a ton in his college career. I cannot wait to see Them in a few years as finishers with the crafty centermen on their way. Brent Baltus puck handling and sense has been really fun to watch, and cannot say enough about Patrick Anderson who is seizing the opportunity. The comeback was so incredibly important and I hope it carries them to an outstanding effort tonight. Blake Pietila is a man amongst boys when he plays like that.

More of this from everyone is essential.

I think the loss of Neville has hurt the team tremendously. More so than I ever would have thought.

Blake should be looking like a man amongst boys out there as a Senior.

Again, it's all about desperation. The team played with it for 12:46 of that game last night and nearly got beat because of it. That type of play has to start at 0:00 into the game, not 50:00.

I watched the MN/MSUM game last night. Mankato is #1 because they play full out for 60:00. It showed against the Gophers.

It boils down to focus and it is immensely difficult to play with that kind of focus for 60 minutes. I give the team a ton of credit for doing as well as they have.

I'm thrilled I get to think about a bid every week, and yes it was a huge win. I love how players develop under Mel, and you know Gould has gotten better and better. Every game he does some things that are real impressive. Last night he made a number of critical defensive plays to stop 2 on 1's etc.

Alaska is real good, played hard, had a good system and did what it took to mess up our passing etc. I'm looking for a great game tonight.

The league as whole is getting tougher and tougher, you have to expect some let downs every so often and really we haven't had a single one.

Am I the only one who is wondering why we are paying more this season for WCHA.tv but getting poorer quality? I have tried asking for a refund but they wont respond to my request from England!

I'd love to have heard what coach was saying to the ref after the game. it was a one way conversation and the ref wasn't saying much.

Good win, and well deserved. Wintjes was very good and the team played well in from of him. Alaska missed several golden opportunities late there. An awful lot of turnovers by us ,and we didn't handle the heavy forecheck by Alaska well at all if you ask me.

Are you sure it was words with the Ref? I heard Dirk mention that a Linesman may have requested a replay on Tanner's goal, thinking he may have kicked it.

2 good and very needed wins, but still a lot of sloppy play at times too.

L'esperance is a beast, he is going to be a stud for us I think. Pietilla is starting to bring it big time and Kero and Petan just keep making it on the score sheet. Anderson has looked great to me and Vallis looked **** good too. This is by far the most depth we have had on any team since I have been following tech, which admittedly isn't that long.

I still think we need to play with more urgency when the score is tied or we have the lead, it seems we play a bit lazy at those times but once we get down it lights a fire under our asses and they play amazingly, they need to do that without being down.

Finally, does anyone else think Wintjes should get the start next Friday? He has looked rock solid in all of his relief outings and he won this game for us with some of those saves at the end. Nothing against Philips as he still has been playing well, but he seems to have come down to earth come and looked a little shaky lately and I just think Wintjes deserves a shot to start.

Great sweep, nice to see them gut out a couple wins. I am honestly shocked to see Patrick Anderson play let alone do this week when given the chance. It is a mark of a good coach that someone like him is put in a position to succeed when given the chance.

In other news, Michigan Tech got another recruit, 16-year-old Jagger Williamson. He has 21 pts and is probably one of the better bc kids in his age group to not choose major juniors at this point.

I have watched most of the Tech games this season, and am wondering the same thing. Why not get him a chance to start, and if he is struggling, put Phillips back in there.

Michigan always seemed to be a 1 goaltender team when Mel was there, so I am wondering if that is why he has tried to stick with Phillips starting all season.
